Looks like the record goes at least a little further back, and this year is in third place:

And there are numbers are back to 1960 which show this year to date outside the lowest 20 full years in the past 53 years.

Ever think they may have changed their reporting methods during that period?
They changed their method of reporting droughts, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, sea ice, global temperatures, economic factors, snow cover and many other things in the last 53 years. It appears you are trying to blow smoke up our posteriors!
You left out this disclaimer:
“The National Interagency Coordination Center at NIFC compiles annual wildland fire statistics for federal and state agencies. This information is provided through Situation Reports, which have been in use for several decades. Prior to 1983, sources of these figures are not known, or cannot be confirmed, and were not derived from the current situation reporting process. As a result the figures above prior to 1983 shouldn’t be compared to later data.”
He he…
“mt” must be learning lessons with “the team”.
Fine, the current area year to date rates as 14th lowest compared to the past 30 full years. The title of this article remains false, and I’d be suprised and disappointed if Steve doesn’t update the post accordingly.
When did fires become weather? I remember when the news anchors would report on them instead of the weather men.
So are volcanoes. Earthquakes are next.
Heard a news report yesterday about how the Fire Service is out of money to fight the forest fires this year. They need hundred of millions of dollars to continue battle the blazes this year. Therefore, it is implied the we must have had more, larger, hotter fires this year than ever before.
Government propaganda at its finest.
The volunteer fire fighters asked for a raise or they increased administration expenses, such as publicity and fire awareness.
I think the warmists believe that warmer means drier and thus we are subject to more terrible everythings, including wildfires.(and maybe earthquakes also!)
