The red line in the second graph shows the record melt season of 2012, which alarmists got hysterical about. Note that at the end of the summer of 2012, there was slightly more ice than a year earlier. During a normal Greenland meltdown year, the ice sheet gains almost 400 gigatons of ice.

Although this is not as alarming as last year’s record melt, it is nevertheless a substantial loss in the total mass budget for the ice sheet….”

They might be reading the “Signs” or Tea Leaves”! Looks like “Best Guess” estimates to me. I know, It was derived from their Super Scientific Models that create Virtual ice conditions and virtual sea levels.
It’s actually bang on the 2003-12 average.
What of course we don’t know is what it was running at in the past.
Given that the LIA was the coldest period in Greenland since the Ice Age, it is hardly surprising that it has been melting since. Indeed it has been melting since the end of the Ice Age.

Yet another of the “inconvenient truths” that send Warmists into a frenzy.
Again, they blow a non-existent even into a “crisis”. Crisis means we want your money, lots of it, right now, with no questions asked.
Steve, how did you get the English version? Link?
This is really stunning to gain ice in the record meltdown year.
John, I found the English at the upper right hand:

I don’t find it stunning for a land mostly North of Alaska, with an average 7,000 foot elevation to start freezing now, but from the above link: “…Although this is not as alarming as last year’s record melt, it is nevertheless a substantial loss in the total mass budget for the ice sheet.

Please learn the difference between surface mass balance and total mass balance.

In addition to the surface mass balance (= snowfall minus melt) there is also calving round the edges. Current total mass balance is estimated at -200 Gt/yr. What that graph actually shows is that in 2012 there was almost no net accumulation to replace the hundreds of Gt being calved.
If more Greenland ice melts, then we will find more Viking settlements and discover why it was named Greenland.
Glacial advance and calving is a response to excess ice being deposited in the interior. If the amount of ice accumulating diminishes, then so does the amount of calving.
