US Maintains The High Moral Ground

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make here. Are you suggesting these raids would have been more “moral” if we’d dropped standard HE? Or if we had mounted a ground invasion with all Japan’s military industry intact, so as to ensure a more equitable number of casualties on both sides? Speaking of moral high ground, though, it is apropos to point out that before we dropped bombs, we also dropped leaflets, telling the Japanese exactly which cities were going to be bombed, and roughly when, to allow civilians time to evacuate. And ya know something else? Japan could have ended the whole sorry business any time with two little words: “We surrender.”
Please, stick to holding the Warmingologists feet to the napalm. I can’t even fathom what the point of this here is.
Evacuate Tokyo?
The point is that pretending we are more moral at waging war than other countries is nonsense.
BTW – I write about whatever I want to write about.
To the best of my knowledge, US & Allied forces never engaged in shooting down servicemen who had bailed out of aircraft or abandoned sinking ships. Neither did we mistreat POWs by torturing them. There IS a moral standard for war, sir, it is outlined in the Geneva Convention, and even the Axis powers at least pretended to honor it, such is its stature.
I will repeat though: what moral quality, or lack thereof, do you associate with the use of napalm and not conventional HE? Or are you asserting a purely pacifist position? I think we all know that war is ugly, but that has never stopped it, and sometimes it is preferable to the alternatives; one need only think of a Europe in which “Peace At Any Price” carried the day in 1937…
Firebombing Tokyo killed half a million civilians.
I repeat — would standard HE bombs have made it better? If there is moral turpitude to be alloted, put it with the Japanese High Command who allowed this to happen when they could have surrendered.
The point is that the faux outrage about Syria is complete bullshit. Obama has killed more civilians in drone strikes than he is accusing Syria of gassing.
Obambi War Criminal nr 1
Well we fostered the only large scale chemical weapons attacks to take place since WW1…Iraq on Iran

We supplied the chemicals, we supplied the intelligence.
Oh, so Saddam Hussein DID have weapons of mass destruction? Interesting….
Where have you been hiding that you did not know that?
All Japan had to do was surrender….
War is hell. My dad was a pharmacist mate on Guadalcanal for 18 months. Once they saw what the Japanese soldiers did to the bodies of dead American soldiers (ex. cutting off their genitals and stuffing in their mouths), they took no more prisoners during the worst fighting. It was the ultimate dishonor for a Japanese soldier to surrender anyway, although not all were brainwashed to that point once captured.
Before being deployed to Guadalcanal he guarded German POW’s in California. They largely didn’t give much trouble, and most were not Nazi’s. On Guadalcanal, he said Japanese soldiers had to be stripped naked.
The Japanese were mercilessly brutal to POW’s. I have no sympathy for Japan during that period of history.
My dad and 5 brothers were in the war at the same time. All returned alive.
It is odd how poison gas weapons are looked upon with such horror, whereas killing civilians with bayonets, bullets, HE & napalm is OK.

Oh, Saddam did have nerve gases, it does appear that he shipped them off to ……………………………. Syria!
He did use them on the Kurds http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/march/16/newsid_4304000/4304853.stm
Also used Mustard gas on Iranians too.

Dresden. Needless. Senseless. Done to impress Uncle Joe with our air might.
I also note that many of the atom bomb developers were fine with dropping the bomb on Germany. But as Germany had surrendered before any bombs were ready many of these same folks petitioned not to drop it on Japan.
Curtis Lamay said, if we don’t win the war I will tried as a war criminal. One submarine captain surfaced after torpedoing a Japanese ship and ordered all the survives to be shot in the water. Germans surrendering in Africa were saying how they were lucky going to POW in America where they would see American girls and the poor GI’s were stuck in Africa. They never reached the rear. War is hell and we should treat it as such. Kill the enemy until you break their will. Then they surrender and there is peace.
Works every time.
There is no nice way of killing.
