A Beached Climate Scam

The big scam yesterday is claiming that Walruses are enjoying the beach in Alaska due to a lack of sea ice, but as always this is complete bullshit. There normally isn’t any sea ice within 100 miles of Alaska this time of year, and this year isn’t much different from the 1981-2010 median.

Migration

The rest of the year (late summer and fall), walruses tend to form massive aggregations of tens of thousands of individuals on rocky beaches or outcrops. The migration between the ice and the beach can be long-distance and dramatic. In late spring and summer, for example, several hundred thousand Pacific walruses migrate from the Bering Sea into the Chukchi Sea through the relatively narrow Bering Strait.

Also even the Wiki entry says that this is normal behaviour for walrus at the end of summer/early fall. These people are shameless.

I’m surprised the polar bears and seals are not huddled together with the walruses and holding posters saying “Save Our Planet from Evil CO2.” (sarc off)

The Climate scam has been exposed as a tool of social engineering – but those responsible for the demise of society have not yet surrendered.

I do not know how will this play out, but I am confident the powerful side of the Creator, Destroyer & Sustainer of every atom, life and world in the Solar System will win.

Our Sun is one of a seemingly limitless number of stars filling the seemingly infinite Universe.

Each star is like a living cell in the Great Spirit of the Universe that made and endowed us with inalienable rights. That benevolent force will not be defeated.

Today Pointman asked, Why do evil things happen?
      http://thepointman.wordpress.com/2014/10/02/tell-me-why/

The answer is the common conclusions of real science, religion and spirituality:

      1. “The Sun is the Creator, Destroyer and Sustainer of every atom, life and world in the Solar System” [1]. Or as Max Planck [2] observed

      2. The origin of “a force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together … We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This Mind is the matrix of all matter.”

Humans have inalienable rights, including continuous free-will to live selfishly or selflessly at each moment of life’s journey.

Dr. Susan Crockford is a breath of fresh air and a true scientist.

Isn’t it sad how we now have to modify the word ‘scientist’ to ‘true scientist’ to capture the old meaning of the word.

      • omanuel says:

Perhaps, Gail, we need to use another word for those who use their talents inappropriately to earn money.

Actually the word has been in use for centuries:

To prostitute is “to use (something valuable, such as talent) in a way that is not appropriate or respectable and especially to earn money.”

      • omanuel says:

Gail, the US Congress did a great disservice to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) by giving that group responsibility for reviewing the budgets and programs of federal research agencies that make research grants – like NASA , DOE, EPA, NSF, etc.

In practice the NAS became the NAP while doing public service, through no fault of their own.

      • Thanks Gail! That means more to me than you can imagine.

FYI, I have a follow-up post today (Oct. 2) with sea ice maps from the UAF ice atlas:
        http://polarbearscience.com/2014/10/02/mass-gatherings-of-walrus-follow-up-sea-ice-maps-for-1978-and-1972/

Lots of ice available and still they gathered in masses and died during stampedes.

        all the best,

        Susan Crockford, PolarBearScience

You have no idea of how much we appreciate the few true scientists who are willing to stick their necks out and stand by the scientific method.

        • Gail Combs says:

No comments at Dr Crockford’s site.

Interesting that in the other two cases of massive haul outs (1972 & 1978) the animals that died were very thin.

Change in the food supply maybe? We know the PDO was discovered because of a change in fish.

The Case of the Disappearing Salmon (The earth has switched to a cold PDO. 1972 and 1978 look like cold spikes on that chart)

For this year the catch in Alaska is bountiful but the fish are small in size. 2/4 = 2 ft to 4 ft range maybe?

Alaska’s Bristol Bay sockeye industry has undergone a drastic change this year due to an unexpected strong run with significantly more small fish.

As the fishery has passed its peak and is winding down, the total harvest for the season is currently predicted to reach around 29 million reds, 11m more than projected, or around 90% more than the actual catch during the previous season.

The small-sized fish, or the 2/4 size, have dominated throughout the season, accounting for 35-45% of the total harvest, sources told Minato Tsukiji.

Compared to the 4/6 and 6/9 sizes, the 2/4 size fish are not as suitable for processing into fillets or headed and gutted (H&G) in terms of productivity and marketing….

Market players have also confirmed that the small (2/4 size) and SS sizes account for nearly 70% of the total harvest….

What that may mean for the walrus I have zero idea. Since Walruses prefer molluscs – mainly bivalves such as clams. They also eat many other kinds of benthic invertebrates including worms, gastropods, cephalopods, crustaceans, sea cucumbers, and other soft-bodied animals. Walruses may occasionally prey on fishes such as polar cod.

Dr Crockford’s first article shows a major increase in the numbers of walruses since 1972 (about a doubling) although the numbers do not go past 1985. So overpopulation and a die off with a cool PDO as a contributing factor is also a possibility although if correlated to the PDO we should have seen it happen in 2010 – 2013 instead of in 2014. link

Too bad now a days all we get is propaganda instead of a real scientist going out their and doing some real research. I really would like to know what is actually happening.

      Or was it –

“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
      “To talk of many things:
      Of shoes–and ships–and sealing-wax–
      Of cabbages–and kings–
And why the sea is boiling hot–
      And whether pigs have wings.”

Either John Lennon’s or Lewis Carroll’s reference to walruses are more coherent than the latest alarmist babblings on the subject.

      • Gail Combs says:

Remember what happen to the Walrus’s companions….

        • tom0mason says:

“I weep for you,” the Walrus said:
          “I deeply sympathize.”
With sobs and tears he sorted out
          Those of the largest size,
          Holding his pocket-handkerchiefs
          Before his streaming eyes.

          “O Oysters,” said the Carpenter,
          “You’ve had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?”
          But answer came there none—
And this was scarcely odd, because
          They’d eaten every one.

        • Gail Combs says:

Which just goes to show what happens to the young when they listen to a bafflegabbing conman instead of the wise old folks.

…”O Oysters, come and walk with us!”
          The Walrus did beseech.
“A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
          Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each.”

The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
          And shook his heavy head–
Meaning to say he did not choose
          To leave the oyster-bed.

But four young Oysters hurried up,
          All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat–
And this was odd, because, you know,
          They hadn’t any feet.

          Four other Oysters followed them,
          And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more, and more, and more–
All hopping through the frothy waves,
          And scrambling to the shore….

Sure sounds like the group Jo Nova found with their heads stuck in the sand.

  8. NOOOO!!! Ye must believe, for it was said by a WWF conservation biology & policy specialist on the PBS NewsHour ( http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/largest-number-walruses-seen-ashore-alaska-sign-tremendous-change/ ) last night that the earlier-starting, later-forming, rapidly melting Arctic affects the jet stream. And if such things are said on the NewsHour, it must be so.
