A little context for those of us not in the US would be helpful …

Sure, make the girl that spews Ebola virus from her eyes cry for your video. Great idea.

    • Whoever reported on this memo for Canadian Journal needs to be fired or reassigned to administrative duties. And so does the editor who signed off on it. They misquoted the memo as supposedly saying the boyfriend has “Ebola-like symptoms”. The memo has no such quote, and in fact says,

“He is being monitored for potential signs and symptoms of the Ebola virus based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) protocol. [. . .] The associate has not shown any signs or symptoms of the Ebola virus.”

It is hard for me to believe this was not deliberate, and if it was deliberate, it constitutes an intentional effort to cause a panic by maliciously reporting false information. While there may indeed be cause for panic at some point, this misquoting is outrageous and shameful.

Ebola is transmitted by liquid (body fluid) contact.
The nurse(?) is wearing a hood with supplied room air going through, my guess, a HEPA filter. If not, it offers no more protection than a face shield. Ebola isn’t an airborne contaminant.
The jacket is tucked into the gloves and the interface is not sealed. Ebola is a liquid contact contaminant. In any HAZMAT training or real I’ve been involved with, you put the sleeves over the gloves and then seal the opening with tape. Even if you are just transferring hazardous materials and are wearing impervious coverings like a rain suit, rubber gloves and a mask, you don’t tuck the sleeves into the gloves. A sure way to channel liquids into the gloves. Even if you are wearing multiple gloves.

I am praying for this little gal to recover from this terrible disease.

In the meantime, perhaps she should have just taken a Carnival Cruise instead?

  5. Send Al to the Pole says:

Over the past two weeks there have been reports of patients with ebola like symptoms all over the US. I suspect there are many more than 2 patients. There are somewhere between 700 and 1000 people flying into the US from West African countries every week.

One of the stories I read discussed how the cafe at the Dallas Presbyterian hospital is a ghost town. No one wanting to go sit where a potentially infected care giver has just sat…. or may have touched food.

The economic devastation that will come from a significant outbreak can literally shut down an economy to nothing. By refusing to halt flights, this is what Obungo and his minions hope for.

    • Toppelton Geardom says:

Remember, you can’t get Ebola by casual contact, but the airlines will be contacting you anyway. Also remember, you can infect others with Ebola by casual contact, but go ahead and travel if your fever is <100.4°.Disease Control is in Control, Centrally! Really, the political hacks in charge of CDC has contradicted themselves this blatantly.

She did receive a transfusion from the doc who first beat the virus. Thomas Duncan was the wrong blood type for a transfusion. I think she will also get Zmapp. So, her chances are fair. The other two patients who got the transfusion survived. This is likely the best way to fight the disease.

  7. GoneWithTheWind says:

I wish her well. Our nurses, doctors and the many unheralded health care workers have a difficult job and deserve our praise and support.

  8. I, too, have been praying for the Ebola victims, and those who’ve been in contact with them.
