Gavin Says That Record Sea Ice In Antarctica Was Caused By Record Heat

From the “testing progressives to see how just far their stupidity extends” department.

Antarctica set an all-time record for sea ice last month, and Gavin says it was record hot there.

  1. Pathway says:

Apparently, Gavin’s box of crayons only includes red, orange and terra cotta.

  2. Jimbo says:

    Take away his crayons.

  3. mjc says:

Yes, but what is the actual temperature. Who cares if the ‘anomaly’ is 8° C if the temp is still well bellow 0°?

    • Record ice extent indicates cold air extending a record distance from the pole. Sea ice starts to break up around -15C when bright sun is shining on it.

      • mjc says:

Exactly…when record ‘heat’ still requires massive layers, special clothing and protection to prevent death from exposure, then how ‘hot’ is it?

Anomalies are ‘scarier’….because if nobody knows that 8° C above ‘average’ is still damn cold, then it’s easier to scare the masses.

        • David A says:

It was not so unusually less cold, if more ocean water was freeing. There is no measurements showing a salinity difference in the waters surrounding Antarctica.

It just means they are extrapolating into areas they do not get a T reading, or there is possibly even a sitting issue somehow, or both. The SSTs do not indicated what GISS is showing.

Heat can cause ice, and ice can cause heat. What “climate science” lacks in accuracy, it makes up for in flexibility!

  5. Latitude says:

    it’s at about 60 latitude….

Gavin and the rest of them get away with this bull crap because most people to not realize if it were 60 north…..

All of Greenland, half of Russia, all of Scandinavian, half of Canada, and all of Alaska…
….would be under a solid block of ice

    60 latitude is a big deal……

  6. nielszoo says:

Gavin does have a point. The last party we hosted we started running out of ice. Instead of putting the ice trays in the freezer (like an ignorant skeptic would do) I put them in the oven and poured a newly opened club soda in the bottom and slammed the door shut so the CO2 couldn’t get out. I must have done something wrong ’cause the water evaporated, the ice cube trays melted and then caught fire. It was free range organic club soda and contained natural CO2 instead of the Mann made stuff. (The recipe I got from Penn State’s web site must have a typo.) Live and learn.

  7. Steve Case says:

    Gavin is in good company:

“The odds are that what we can expect as a result of global warming is to see more of this pattern of extreme cold.” – – Dr. John Holdren, The White House – 1/8/2014

  8. Thomas Englert says:

Gavin’s work makes Piltdown Man seem like first rate science.

  9. Andy DC says:

Mann-made global weirding cooling in Russia! Plus record northern hemisphere September snowcover, all the result of an overheated planet!

  10. Svend Ferdinandsen says:

Gavin could have a point, except that ice still melt/freeze at 0C. The higher temperature could indicate more snow falling caused by some clouds, indicating the icecap is growing.

    From WUWT:
    June 2014

Antarctica continues to defy the global warming script, with a report from Meteo France, that June this year was the coldest Antarctic June ever recorded, at the French Antarctic Dumont d’Urville Station.

According to the press release, during June this year, the average temperature was -22.4c (-8.3F), 6.6c (11.9F) lower than normal. This is the coldest June ever recorded at the station, and almost the coldest monthly average ever – only September 1953 was colder, with a recorded average temperature of -23.5c (-10.3F).

June this year also broke the June daily minimum temperature record, with a new record low of -34.9c (-30.8F)…..
Dumont d’Urville Station has experienced ongoing activity since 1956. According to the Meteo France record, there is no other weather station for 1000km in any direction.

Nothing else on the first page of google about this record breaking cold…. imagine that.

On the second page is news of last years record cold.

According to a new report, Antarctica has just set a new low temperature record: -135° Fahrenheit (-93.2° Celsius)….

A new look at NASA satellite data revealed that Earth set a new record for coldest temperature recorded. It happened in August 2010 when it hit -135.8 degrees. Then on July 31 of this year, it came close again: -135.3 degrees.

The old record had been -128.6 degrees, which is -89.2 degrees Celsius.

Ice scientist Ted Scambos at the National Snow and Ice Data Center said the new record is “50 degrees colder than anything that has ever been seen in Alaska or Siberia or certainly North Dakota.”

Given record cold two years in a row plus record sea ice I really think it is time to take away the crayon box from the kiddies at NOAA. They are starting to make fools of themselves.

  12. PJ London says:

Geez you guys, are you stupid or what?
The map was not prepared from “data” it was prepared from a “peer-reviewed” computer model. 97% agreed that it was a very nice model, with pictures and graphs and everything.
Last time they tried to get data, the ship got stuck and it was bl**dy cold, getting data is a mug’s game. Much nicer to sit in a warm office (or your mum’s basement) and get paid for making the numbers fit the prediction.

  13. Ernest Bush says:

Weather Underground shows a lot of temps in the -50 to -60 degree F range today once you get away from the coast. I don’t think there is any chance of any warming trend there that would cause melting ice this month on the continent.

  14. It is I only says:

Quote:Gavin Says That Record Sea Ice In Antarctica Was Caused By Record Heat.
    I fully agree with Gavin.
All the heat is sinking to the bottom of the Ocean & pushing the cold water to the surface which make for the Ice increase in Antarctica.
Simple new physics as theorized by “respected” scientists.
