Good Observations From Peter Thiel

PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, often considered one of the most influential people in Silicon Valley, said Tuesday that he is skeptical of man-made global warming because many refuse to allow debate the subject.

“Whenever you can’t have a debate, I often think that’s evidence that there’s a problem,” Thiel said on The Glenn Beck Program. “When people use the word ‘science,’ it’s often a tell, like in poker, that you’re bluffing. It’s like we have ‘social science’ and we have ‘political science,’ [but] we don’t call it ‘physical science’ or ‘chemical science.’ We just call them physics and chemistry because we know they’re right.”

  1. But he isn’t a climate scientist.

    • Brian G Valentine says:

He doesn’t need to be. Everyone above the level of idiot knows that every weather event that has happened anywhere, has happened before at the same location (which is really the same thing as saying that the climate hasn’t changed within the span of human history anywhere on the Earth)

Thanks for this reminder that an influential member of Silicon Valley also doubts the AGW fable.

Frankly, I had assumed that Bill Gates represented the thinking of must of Silicon Valley.

    • Keitho says:

No, Thiel is quite a smart guy but he is researching on how to do away with death? Maybe because he has made an enormous amount of money and would like to live a long long time so as to spend it all.

He has certainly thought about a great number of things and mostly he projects some clear logic. He is probably worth watching in the years to come.

  3. Truthseeker says:

Clear thinking from someone who has succeeded in this world. How different from the fuzzy thinking from those that need taxpayer handouts to survive.

  4. What? They don’t debate it? They debate me all the time:
    1. You have a tinfoil hat
    2. You deny science
    3. You work for Koch tobacco
    4. 97%
    5. You are a conspiracy theorist
    6. That’s a talking point
    7. That’s a meme
    8.

  5. Andy Oz says:

I put Climate Science in with Social Science. Richard Feynman has some points to make on Social Sciences.

“Looking back at his own experience, Feynman was keenly aware of how easy our experiments can deceive us and thus of the need to employ a rigorous scientific approach in order to find the truth. Because of this, he was highly critical of other sciences which did not adhere to the same principles.”

“Climate experts” don’t want to find truth, just more government funding.

  6. R. Hunter says:

To Mr. Valentines comment, consider that the tree huggers want to abolish toilet paper in the name of protecting the environment. I am sure that will surface at some point as soon as they get their shit together.

  7. Andy Oz says:

ANTARCTIC-BOUND researchers face a tough challenge to reach the frozen continent amid record levels of sea ice.

AS the icebreaker Aurora Australis sets off from Hobart on its maiden mission for the summer season, the bright orange vessel has been stocked with extra supplies in case of hold-ups.
For the first time since satellite records began in 1979 Antarctic sea ice has passed the 20 million square kilometre mark, voyage manager Robb Clifton says.
“This is the greatest extent of sea ice that we’ve had to deal with,” Mr Clifton told reporters in Hobart ahead of Wednesday evening’s departure.
“It’s definitely becoming more difficult to operate in the sea ice in Antarctica and so we do expect that is likely to cause us some problems.”

More public money thrown down the climate sink-hole?
This time the expense includes a helicoper and a ski-plane just in case.
I do hope they have paid for the health and travel insurance personally.

    • I recommend you use Australian ice breakers and stop renting Russian ones, to keep the money in the family when you get stuck. Why send good Aussie money to Putin? Think how many Aussie jobs you are creating by getting stuck in the ice.

  8. Mohatdebos says:

A great example of clear thinking: “Over the past three years there has been a steady increase in sea ice, which scientists have linked to global warming, and a reduction in the mass of the Antarctic ice shelf.”

  9. Justa Joe says:

AGW is what you get when you apply the principles and methods of sociology and anthropology to what should be the hard science of atmospheric physics.

Throw in a couple of social justice warriors like Piltdown Mann and Voila!
