James Hansen claims the climate has been “pretty constant” for the last 10,000 years

What Homer meant by stable, is ice-free.
“Examination of several proxy records (e.g., sediment cores) of sea ice indicate ice-free or near ice-free summer conditions for at least some time during the period of 15,000 to 5,000 years ago”
Experts say that an ice-free Arctic would be catastrophic and unrecoverable, which apparently is the same as stable.
Forests existed at elevations that were higher than today – in areas that are presently covered by glaciers.

Mini ice age? Minoan Warm Period? Roman Warm Period? Medieval Warm Period? Holocene? All in the last 10,000 years. Earth’s climate has seen a lot of variation in the last 10,000 years, including the warm periods where we were hotter than we are now, without going Venusian. You have to bury your head in the sand pretty deep to claim we are headed for a climatic disaster.
I actually tried to listen to him. I got to about 9 minutes.
I challenge anyone to go longer….
If I go longer than a minute, I’d reach a tipping point where my oceans would boil away just like they did on Venus
Smoke was coming out of my ears.

Patrick Moore on Sky News Australia – 21 Oct 2014
He cleans house with Irwin Jackson from the Climate Institute bringing sanity back to the science debate.
In April 2008, Erwin Jackson and the Climate Institute caused a kerfuffle with green groups when the C.I. joined with WWF-Australia in supporting the accelerated development of clean coal technology. That undermined the demonisation of coal central to many activist campaigns.
Jackson was a member of Greenpeace for nearly 20 years. For 14 of those years he ran campaigns for Greenpeace Australia.

A stable Arctic.
So when are we going to get the ice-free Arctic? I was so looking forward to it – more mineral extraction, human settlement, better all-around I’d say. It’s like a broken promise.
I’m moving to Antarctica. Down there I can get beach front property real cheap before the rush of climate refugees or Al Gore show up.
It was noted over a 100 years ago that “The arctic is screaming” …

At least the twisted and neurotic doomsayers have the ACA to access for their medications 😉

Nice hat, Homer. Those new-fangled enviro bulbs sure can give the old chrome-dome a nasty burn.
Indianna Hansen … what a gumby!
Hansen was billed as Climate Prophet, who gave an opening speech for the theatre group’s performance of the play, “Extreme Weather.”
The group’s website summarizes the play as follows:
“A major climate scientist, his colleague and lover, an Arctic scientist, wage fierce battle with his twin sister, a publicist for the energy industry, and her husband, a lobbyist, over scientific truth and an inherited wilderness estate. His wise-child daughter and her side-kick Uncle work to protect the natural world and sabotage its abusers.”
By the way the in retirement Hansen seems to have gone in for a “homeless” look, which could mean fewer Congressional appearances etc
My favorite part was where he said that confiscatory taxes of $100 per ton of CO2, crippling energy use so badly that fossil fuel use will drop by 52%, will “stimulate the economy” (starts at 9:00).
I wonder what his fee was for this. He does none of this kind of shit for free.
The last ~10 minutes is mostly James Hansen squirming as the useful idiots in the audience pepper him with angry comments about the Republican House, the Tea Party and the Koch brothers.
His comment that liberal politicians are doing more harm than the conservatives really set them off.
Wow, 12,000 years ago, I would be sitting on a glacier in southern MN.
10,000 or 9,000 years ago, I would be swimming in Lake Agassiz, which was much larger than the five great lakes combined. Thankfully the water drained through a couple of outlets, one the great River Warren and left me with the lake I live on and 9,999 other lakes Actually there are about 15,000 lakes in Minnesota.
When that drainage took place the oceans did rise at an incredible rate. Now, after the little ice. the glaciers have been melting and oceans rising at a slow rate for the last several hundred years.
