The Greenland Ice Sheet gained a record amount of ice and snow this autumn – more than 200 billion tons. This lowers sea level, and is the exact opposite of what experts forecast, and say is happening.
This is a big change from 1940, when the glaciers of Greenland were rapidly melting and nearing a catastrophe.
Article from 1940 … That’s when the first SUVs began to roam our streets … not.
Worth noting that 1940 is prior to the “consensus view” of the birth of AGW (IPCC puts at 1950 – and many orgs place it decades later). Unfortunately the broad public is not aware (or, have forgotten their 8th grade science) that global historical records demonstrate that such “change” was well in motion, and in many cases more dramatic during the 100 years preceding AGW, than since.
Great, thanks a lot. One more metric I feel the need, or compulsion, to track. I have a job and a family, and my time is in short supply you know.
“Satellite observations over the last decade show that the ice sheet is not in balance. The calving loss is greater than the gain from surface mass balance, and Greenland is losing mass at about 200 Gt/yr.”
Quoted from that article. This is also a model based on input data and that model has recently changed making comparisons to older model outputs less than ideal.
dw, gravometric studies The error bars are very very large.
If you read the info on the site, it says all values on there have been calculated using the new model so the comparison with older years is still valid. The SMB is only about 20 G/T above the mean for the same period. It will be interesting if the full year track follows the upper limit of the grey band which is high daily value from 1990-2011.
I thought calving was what put it in balance.
Yes, and they say that cows are producing methane and thus, causing this calving. Solution: kill all cows, kill all calves, etc.
These people are in a death cult.
The headline is “Ice Sheet Mass Gain At A Record High.” This is misleading and not helpful, since as d.w. points out, Greenland is losing mass. It is not the net mass that is gaining but the surface mass, which does not include calving.
Reblogged this on Centinel2012 and commented:
Damn more frozen heat!
That can’t be right; the Greenland Ice Sheet melted away several years ago /sarc.
Well, according to “climatologist” John Kerry, it should be gone already:
John Kerry on Climate Change, “Scientists project that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summer of 2013. Not in 2050, but four years from now.”

Of course another of the fear salesmen chimed in with this well thought out scientific statement:
2008 Robert Kennedy Jr. Blames No Snow on Palin: http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2013/02/10/rfk-jr-blames-sarah-palin-for-the-lack-of-snow/
Reblogged this on Climatism.
Speaking of lowering sea level, just saw last night on 60 Minutes the story about Khurais. I think the Saudis are close to completion. Although this article is from 2008, it’s says, as Leslie Stahl narrated that the Saudis plan to inject 2. MILLION BARRELS (84 Million Gallons) of ocean water per day into the ground in order to pump up oil. What would that do to sea level rise ?

Here is a graph on the Arctic temperatures for more than a hindred years: http://www.arctic-warming.com/?page_id=14 You can see that there are some anomalies, but, as they say in the post, there are not enough researches and writings on this subject. Definitely we should pay much more attention at the necessary measures that should be taken in order to decrease the CO2 emissions and the warming phenomenon that altered many parts of our planet.
Greenland is not the only ice sheet/glaciers gaining mass…
Why Asia’s Glaciers Are Mysteriously Expanding, Not Melting
OH, the agony of defeet…. Frostbite you know.
Isn’t it nice they have found an excuse?
Hot, cold, wet, dry or whatever, it is entirely consistent with a warming planet. Right!
Note how they don’t dare talk about Buffalo, NY. Or my own mountain, for example. For the last two weeks it looked more like the HImalayan mountains here and this, before Thanksgiving.
It’s a crying shame that there is no ice in those beautiful glacial valleys in Southern Germany and Austria!!!!!
I wonder if those villagers realize that they are living in “a catastrophe”?
