Ha, the democrat newspapers all over the country back then blasted Lincoln and his “little speech” at Gettysburg.
Heck it was an afterthought by the organizers to even invite the President to “say a few words”. After all they already had Edward Everett who was the most renowned orator in the country at the time as their primary speaker.
Everett spoke for about 2 hours. Lincoln gave his address in about 3 minutes.
After the event Everett wrote Lincoln and said “”I should be glad, if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea of the occasion, in two hours, as you did in two minutes.”
Just goes to show you that partisanship was every bit as rampant back then, if not more so than in our times.

Yes, Lincoln. Violated the constitution over and over, empowered the federal government to it’s current dictatorial position, loaded the supreme court (raised the number from 5 to 9) with activist judges, and is directly responsible for over 622 thousands deaths in the pursuit of people legally exercising the constitutional right to leave the union. Which btw, is more a gulag than a union when one is a forced member don’t you think….

With the radicals in office we had a chance of eventually having a new revolution where the tree of liberty would be fed and the possibility of becoming more free. Now we are back to sheep in the pens.

Lincoln also suspended Habeas Corpus, imprisoned over 10,000 citizens, closed about 300 newspapers, deported a state legislator, etc. preventing the people from expressing their disagreement with his Stalinesque activities!! Was a surprise to me they had so many Secret Police and regular types back then willing to do the dirty deeds!!
Lincoln was the epitome of the Crony Capitalist supporting protective tariffs (a southern complaint as it was destroying their industry), a supporter of central banking (now called the Fed) and remember the Railroad Robber Barons?? Fully Gubmint and Lincoln supported!!
