Greenland Breaks Record For One Day Ice Mass Gain

The Greenland ice sheet has gained record amounts of ice this season (300 billion tons) with a record one day accumulation of 12 billion tons in mid-September.

Experts say that Greenland is melting down, and is going to drown us all.

Those “experts” managed to find one arse cheek with one hand – then it turned out to be the wrong arse..

  2. ren says:

Today the temperature in the center of Greenland dropped to -59 degrees C.

There’s that September 1 start date again. Why? No equinox or solstice coincides with it! The fall equinox was Sept 22 in 2014. Someone here educate me please. Is it a time frame selected for consistency from year to year since the dates of the changing of the seasons vary over time?

    • nielszoo says:

The US Federal Government’s fiscal year starts on October 1st. If the climate leaches get data starting in September they can us to deliver and bill a full month’s interpretation of data on October 1st when the new money comes in, then they can bill for a full “year” of research before the fiscal year ends September 30th while still billing to collect September. (I would add a </sarc> tag but my fear is that what I just made up is actually correct.)

    • The start of the ice accumulation season.

    • kingbum says:

In pure astronomical terms you would be right but when talking about the weather meteorologists and climatologists worldwide consider sept 1st the first day of autumn…dec 1st first day of winter….mar 1st first day of spring.. .and june 1st first day of summer

    • rah says:

Thanks for the explanations but in the longer term that will have to change if we’re around long enough. Precession will cause the timing of the seasons to change. In 12, 900 years the Northern Hemisphere will experience Summer in January and Winter in June.

Now I understand that’s a very long time for us humans but the rate of change in precession is constant from what I understand so a little bit of a change in the actual start of the seasons is occurring every year. Thus these start times for snow/ice accumulation or when as far as the Climatologists are concerned when the various seasons start are based on relatively recent observations and are becoming more anachronistic as time goes by. Not very scientific. It would make sense for the sake of continuity over time they should be adjusted just as is done with official time to keep it on track.

Or is this truck driver being too egg headed?

  4. d.w. says:

“Satellite observations over the last decade show that the ice sheet is not in balance. The calving loss is greater than the gain from surface mass balance, and Greenland is losing mass at about 200 Gt/yr.”

Please stop selectively picking the facts that highlight your message. Give us honest data unlike everyone you claim to hate.

    • What source eco tard? Where is the link and your proof of calving? Ice sheets expand and the ecotards make up thin ice, calving b.s. morons

    • Gail Combs says:

You do not want ‘Short term data?

      Then how about THIS

      Or THIS:

Anyway you look at it the earth is long term COOLING not warming. Also there were ‘thermal pluses’ (warm periods) in other interglacials just before the descent into glaciation.

      Desprat et al (2005):

      Abstract:

“The Marine Isotope Stage 11 interglacial, centered at ~400 ka, appears to be the best candidate for understanding climatic changes in the context of low insolation forcing such as that of our present interglacial. Direct correlation between terrestrial (pollen) and marine climatic indicators and ice volume proxy from deep-sea core MD01-2447 (off northwestern Iberia) shows for the first time the phase relationship between southwestern European vegetation, sea surface temperatures in the northeastern Atlantic midlatitudes and ice volume during MIS 11. A warmest 32,000 years-long period and three following warm/cold cycles occurred synchronously on land and ocean. The end of the warmest period sees the glacial inception….

The thermal pulse at the bitter end of the Eemian, before descent into the Wisconsin Ice Age, was 1 to almost 2 orders of magnitude greater than the proposed CAGW so how in hell do you tell the difference?

    • Robert Austin says:

Calving ain’t melting, whatever the mass balance. Calving indicates glacier advance, which implies a steady resupply of ice at the source. And “satellite observations” of such mass balance are problematic in themselves.

    • kingbum says:

Glaciers calve as they grow moron…and this was about one year not the general trend anyway if you read the title at all…and since there is no global warming only one thing can melt that ice on Greenland which is geothermal activities. …that would be on par with the increase in activity worldwide…so sir get your head out of the IPCCs ass

    • JimBob says:

I agree with the ice cap is not in “balance” but not due to human influence:
      http://www.climatechangedispatch.com/greenland-ice-melt-is-geothermal-not-manmade.html
It suggests that the Greenland Ice Cap is also subject to Geothermal melting just the same as the West Ant. Ice caps is

    • rah says:

“Satellite observations over the last decade show that the ice sheet is not in balance. “Wow a whole decade of satellite data our of 4 1/2 billion years is enough to tell what “the balance” of the polar ice sheets are? Think about that d.w.
