Voodoo At NCDC

NCDC determined that 2014 is the hottest year on record, by simply making up hot temperatures for entire countries where they have no data.

And in Antarctica, they had what? Two thermometers? And have this as the scale for the entire continent plus outwards by 500+ miles of oceans surrounding the place?

    • Peter Yates says:

In Antarctica and on surrounding islands there are at least 20 places where temperatures are recorded. …. http://www.accuweather.com/en/antarctica-weather

And one of those is at McMurdo where the station is in the middle of the base. Talk about your UHI. It’s my understanding that the body heat of the technician reading the instruments can influence the reading there due to the extreme cold so of course we will bias most of Antarctica to the station with the highest density of heated buildings and equipment on the continent… that’s just “peer reviewed best practice.”

      • Ernest Bush says:

Despite that, many low temperature records were recorded and published last SH winter. GISS may only use two, but the scientific media are not ignoring the others. News is getting out about the increasing cold and sea ice extent.

As an amateur observer, I routinely go to the null school.net website globe and click over both the Arctic and Antarctic regions to check air and ocean temperatures and anomalies. It tracks other sources fairly accurately and is a great learning tool for weather and climate, teachers. It tracks winds, air pressure, temps, anomalies, and other things from sea level to 10 hPa (millibars). The jet streams leap out at you along with polar vortices at 250 millibars. It also shows ocean currents and sea data. No amount of government propaganda can compete with this colorful, dynamic, display of the awesomeness of the planet wide weather system in a child’s imagination.

I realize the above is off topic, but it is a great politically neutral place for non-scientitsts to see real-time atmospheric and ocean data in graphic form since raw data means nothing to us. Clicking the word “earth” will bring up the menu. Rotate and zoom the globe using your mouse. Click on a point to see its coordinates and associated data.

The problem is that policy is not being set with expanded data sets or additional observation stations…it is being set using the tampered GISS and other ‘Team’ approved data.

It was almost funny what they did with Madagascar. Here you have one cool station and one warm station. Then right in between they insert extreme heat. If that doesn’t show their bias, I give up!

    • Sparks says:

It does show.. and it will cost them more than it’s worth, by my calculations. If you lie you’re out.

      • Timw says:

Beat me to it! I was going to comment on it but noticed you mentioned it first. Throw in a few hot spots here and there and you’ll have a record warm year. It would be interesting to chart how much of data fill in is cold, averaged, warm or hot. In this case there is no justification to insert a hot spot between a cold spot and a warm spot.

    • Billy Liar says:

It isn’t just Madagascar; almost all the infilling is hotter than the observed temperatures.

      It’s bizarre.

      • Billy Liar says:

Is this all part of the support for Paris 2015?

      • Anthony S says:

Seriously. The longer I look at the chart, the less sense the infilling makes. Look at the 3 cold spots in the Sahara-lets make it warm in the middle. Look at Algeria and Morocco; it’s measures as being moderately warm, but the infill is extremely warm. And in South Africa, there are again moderately warm measured temperatures, but there is a snake of even warmer temperatures winding between the stations.

        Bizarre indeed.

“What they discovered was a major weather event, known as a Sudden Stratospheric Warming. These events typically occur every other year and at random, they said. Consequently, the cosmic-ray data revealed in this latest study can be used to effectively identify these events.”

At this rate we will all be dead from the heat in a decade — on paper. In reality, I may have to quit wearing cargo shorts all winter in Yuma, AZ, due to increasingly cold temperatures. What a bother!
