During December of 1953, the US was pounded by several deadly tornadoes. If this happened now, President Obama and the UN conference would demand an immediate UN takeover of the global energy supply.
2014 has been the quietest year on record for US tornadoes
The problem is the lull cannot last forever.
Since when does the politics have anything to do with the actual data?
Those of us who have an affinity for reason and logic have a sort of blind spot. Like the man with a hammer who sees every problem as a nail, it is difficult for us to understand that some people really, truly, do not care about the data. I still find myself saying, “But…but…but! The numbers! LOOK AT THE NUMBERS! The measurements say exactly the opposite of what you are telling me!”
The only thing I have ever found that even scratched the surface of CAGW thinking is some variation of, “Maybe global warming is true, maybe it is not — but think of all the brown people who have had their villages in the rain forest burned down so that big corporations can put in biofuel plantations! What are we going to do after the wind generators have killed off all the endangered eagle?! Nothing will EVER bring them back!”
Real data mean nothing to most CAGW supporters — and even worse, to the politicians, even saving the environment means nothing. The only thing they see is power and money.
In days long past.
If I had a tornado, it would look like these tornadoes.
It’s not your dumb-ass fault for not heading for shelter as soon as the sirens went off… it’s the tornado’s fault.
Well, for starters, if this happened today, the Christmas lights would not be described as ‘gay-colored’.
You could say ‘gay’ but that other word is a no-no. 🙂
Which one? Colored or Christmas?
What happened to this years hurricane season? Did it just die quietly to be replaced with alarm about ‘warmest ever’ year globally?
When did that happen? The 50s? Ah, let me see. We have seen this before and 2014 is not over. The secondary southern tornado season is now. Let us get to the end of the year and see how things are then.
I say this because I’ve personally seen how volatile things can get when it is ‘cold’ phase. Back in the 70s, we had a warm week end with twisters, turn cold and snow with an inch or two on the ground. The first two days after that we had ‘below normal’ low and ‘below normal’ high temperatures. On the third and fourth days, that had moderated to average. Two days later (the end of the week) we were seeing ‘above normal’ low and ‘above normal’ high temperatures from a strong developing low following a very strong high. The southerly fetch over 48 hours moved in air from the southern Caribbean Sea and with it mid 50s/mid 70s. That ended with severe weather that was followed by two weeks of cold weather. That was followed by a strong ‘January thaw’.
This year, that strong blocking high that made California sizzle slowly moved east and parked itself off the Georgia coast. Guess what, we went from ‘record’ cold to ‘record’ warm. Fortunately the following storm system didn’t bring severe weather with it for us.
Living things have to survive and adapt to the weather. Those that survive get to talk about that previously realized weather and call it climate.
