“pushing nature past its limits”

New resorts continue to open in the Maldives, as the press continues to announce its demise due to the burning of fossil fuels.

The Maldives New Resorts Scheduled For Opening In 2025

The same observations as were made in 1837 are now proof that the fossil fuels are destroying the planet.

“‘The natives observe the atolls to be wasting away; in some the cocoanut trees are standing in the water; in another the black soil of the island is discernible at low water thirty feet from the beach; the south-east side of an island in Phaidee Pholo Atoll is entirely gone, but is marked by a banyan tree in the water. They say that some islands have disappeared entirely and instance near the island Wardoo a rocky shoal, which (they say) was once an island in Atoll-Milla-Dou. Some of the outer edges of the islands have fallen into the sea, ”

Seems that those sea level rise believing Maldivers
are 100% sure that even more rich front beach property owning sea level rise believers will come to visit their luxury resorts.

That’s why they are investing in their sinking ship.

Or they have Hank Johnson as advisor.

I hope that they are aware that those resorts might tip the islands over.

  4. Disillusioned says:

Under the guise of prevention of ‘Maldives drowning’, the island nation has had a wonderful opportunity to cull funds from UN countries around the world. They have increased/modernized their infrastructure and strengthened their economy. It is a wonderful vacation spot.

Bbbbut what do we do to counter this glaring non sequitur? Let’s claim the poor nation is being exploited. Yeah, that’s the ticket! https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2024/04/maldives-stuck-between-rock-and-hard-place-un-expert

Can’t wait for that Human Rights Council report in March 2025. SMH

    • Francis Barnett says:

“The tropical Maldives may lose entire islands unless it can quickly access cheap financing to fight the impact of climate change, its foreign minister said”

That must include building more hotel resorts, and airports, as they have been.
That quote from Reuters says more about Reuters than it does about the Maldives

      • Disillusioned says:

And that quote says nothing substantive about the scapegoat – mythical climate change. For a quarter-century, the Maldives have had a great thing going.

If only the U.N. would come to my town offering endless rounds of financing with which we could rebuild our infrastructure and get vacationers from all over the world.

Actually, the UN have come to town – with their Agenda 2030 dictates…. uh… suggestions which our local government have obediently implemented. Over 5 years we have had a countless influx of foreigners, new high-rise apartment buildings, bike lanes (swiped from existing, badly needed car lanes), speed humps and traffic jams everywhere. And all the time – the roads used to be busy only during traditional ‘rush hours’. Now they are crowded throughout most of the day. It is drudgery moving around our city now.

    Wut? Nature has limits?

Pushing nature past its limits. That’s a one up on just pushing it to its limits. This writer is so 5th grade genius that she should get the Pulitzer. But hasn’t it already happened over the last 500 million years? During that time nature has gone from the “Ideal” climate of 7000 ppm CO2 in the atmosphere and the perfect global average temperature of around 73F, to our current dangerously fringe level CO2 of 400 ppm and a teeth chattering 59F global average temperature, and yet nature is somehow still here.
