The percent of days above freezing so far this year in the US has been 6th lowest on record, and lowest since the record cold year of 1979.
But Grok 3 won’t acknowledge the cold until it hears it from the government.
“Without finalized data for February 2025 (NOAA typically releases monthly summaries mid-March), we can’t confirm if the U.S. is experiencing record warmth this month.”
Too soon to see if we’ve had record warmth?! where has it been warm? in South Central Minnesota our February is currently running about the sixth coldest in history but starting today we are having a big warm up and by the end of the month we’re going to be just a little bit below average for the month. Good! I’ve had enough of the cold! the above article also states that we had unusually warm weather in Minnesota and Wisconsin last winter. that’s true but it was unusually warm partly because after having record snow fall the year before we had almost no snow last winter and went for many weeks at a time without snow on the ground, not because it was raining but because we just weren’t getting any precipitation, after the year before being close to record wet. without a good snow cover your temperatures are going to be much warmer.
