Bill McKibben’s divestment program has brought his home state of Vermont their coldest year on record so far.
Without fossil fuels, Vermonters would have cut down and burned millions of trees this winter to stay warm. According to President Obama, this would give millions of children asthma.
We are truly dealing with the world’s stupidest people.
Tony,
I really wish it were just stupidity. Sadly, I’m not that naïve.
Hilarious Headline !!
Thanks for the good laugh today… needed it… now if only the other 57 States could follow Vermont’s Lead…
Couldn’t Vermonters have warmed themselves with renewables, like wind? And the stronger the cold wind, the warmer they’d get?
Snow is a great insulator, I’m surprised they didn’t self combust.
Imagine what would be happening if the last line on the graph was going up instead of down. It would be full-throttle war-of-the-worlds panic. Mann would be running for President.
Don’t give him any ideas. All it takes is inverting the graph. Do you remember Upside Down Tiljander?
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/06/22/manns-inverted-tiljander-data-survives-another-round-of-peer-review
According to Google, the most common search word in Vermont last winter was ‘firewood’. Everyone I know up there (I live very close to their border) was desperate for firewood last month because they ran out due to the super cold nights.
I usually have an extra cord of wood for winter and this year I burned nearly all the firewood including the emergency cord.
Fire wood smoke… now there’s a real asthma trigger. !
Wood burning stove and adiabatic inversion = Smog in the morning.
Better let Obummer know so he can stop people using it.
With Massachusetts suing the EPA to limit CO2 and Vermont’s flawed logic, the record snow this winter shows nature is not without a sense of irony. I wonder how much colder New England winters will need to get before we finally address global warming for them.
Help is on the way.
Istasz put down the newest Scientific American on the neat stack by his chair, right next to his Rolling Stone magazines. He knew he had all the ammo he needed. He stood up and a strange tickle went up his leg as he zipped up his camo onesie. He checked the stash of ramen soup in his pantry and smiled ominously. You will regret it, he said to himself.
He took a wet cloth from the sink and wiped the laminated posters behind his futon. Barack would kill it in a beret, he thought, as he walked back to the sink. It didn’t have to be close last time. Why didn’t Valerie let him wear it? He wondered how a beret would go with Hillary’s pantsuits. She should try fatigues on the trail, he thought, the troops would love it.
He felt rested and ready. He sat down to his keyboard and cracked his knuckles. Deniers, he smirked, I will make you pay.

typo correction….. … a strange trickle……
….. went down his leg…
Well, OK then. He was so excited he spilled his hot chocolate and had to change his onesie. That could happen to anybody.

I will never stop deriving pure joy from seeing fools continue to conflate “weather” (e.g., the last two cold East Coast Winters (but incredibly warm on the West Coast)) with “climate”, which manifests itself as a long term warming trend caused by anthropic CO2 emissions.
You guys can’t hope to be taken seriously, ever, really, unless you get this elementary distinction down. In fact, it’s hard to imagine what it would take for you guys to ever to gain credibility. But, then agin, nothing ever appear on this site but old newspapers articles picked in an ad hoc manner to meet your neoconservative agenda. Obama (and soon to be Hillary) haters, pure and simple.
Let me guess, 99% of this audience stays awake at night fearing one World Government.
Guess what a wandering jet stream brings? A warm west coast and a cold midwest and east coast. And Lots and Lots of snow. Eventually if the weather pattern does not break you get a change in ‘climate’ that looks like this:
http://www2.nau.edu/rcb7/namQ.jpg
Last I heard the Wisconsin Ice Age was not very warm…
“… 99% of this audience stays awake at night fearing one World Government….”
Again your ignorance of the real world is showing.
Pascal Lamy was the director-general of the World Trade Organization from 2005 to 2013. He is a French Socialist and was a big wig in the EU. Recent skuttlebut is he may be the next EU president.
Pascal Lamy: Whither Globalization?
So a one world government was the goal for more than 75 years.
Clinton as president worked towards this goal by ship US jobs and technology to China. All based on the Progressives belief that interdependence stops wars unfortunately history does not show that. Economic Interdependence and War: A Theory of Trade Expectations International Security, Vol. 20 (Spring 1996)
And then you have the China side of the equation:
Lessons of history: China’s century of humiliation: The repercussions of British opportunism in China during the Opium Wars can be felt in geopolitics even today
If you are young I strongly suggest you learn Mandarin. Of course if I was China I would just do a … nuclear EMP attack… as practiced by North Korea during the nuclear crisis of 2013 are both existential threats that could kill 9 of 10 Americans through starvation, disease, and societal collapse….: ~ Dr. Peter Vincent Pry is the executive director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security,

You go Gail! 😆
Nice to have you back. Type slowly for istasz, it appears to be a product of this…

Down here , there are rumours that Kevin Rudd wants to be world president.. seriously !!!
With ignorant socialists in charge, even the most bizarre and monumentally stupid things can happen.
Rudd better be prepared to defeat Skeeter in a Progressive coup de disgrace. 😉
I see that the ignorance displayed on this site isn’t confined to the Northern Hemisphere. On the topic of socialists, Nixon’s administration gave us the EPA; while Reagan proposed universal nuclear disarmament. By comparison, Obama is closer to Goldwater.
“I see that the ignorance displayed on this site isn’t confined to the Northern Hemisphere”
I take it you travel around a bit !
Are you Di Paprio’s bed mate or something ?
EPA did a good job cleaning up the air in the US.
Then it ran out of things to do, the totalitarian socialists took over the lead roles in the EPA, and non-science, agenda driven farce became the only thing they are now capable of.
I reckon that even someone as dumb and ill-educated as you, might even know more about climate change than the head of the EPA . That’s how useless they have become.
At least you probably know that climate models exist (and have proven to be woefully incorrect.)
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/03/09/epa-chief-doesnt-know-whether-climate-model-projections-are-accurate/
Wow, Gail, trouble staying on topic?
Your first comment (and associated graphic) actually reinforced my point – the East Coast may have been abnormally cold, but the West was abnormally warm. The commentators on this site focus only on the former and, even then, fail to realize (yet again) that a few cold winters cannot be translated into a statement about climate change. At all. Incidentally, the jet stream did not wander much this winter al all – it was instead incredibly stable (four oscillations circumscribing the Northern Hemisphere) – a feature which has been the source of considerable consternation for the past four years. The question of whether this “Ridiculously Resilient Ridge” is a new aspect of the changing climate cannot yet be answered. However, the answer of why warming has slowed over the past decade has been answered in terms of the Pacific Decadal Oscillations (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/pacific-current-change-slowed-global-warming/). The impending switch back will invariably result in a new era of marked and unabated temperature increases that correlate exactly with increases anthropogenically generated CO2 increases – a trend that only the most gullible, naive and most members of the Tea Party could possibly deny.
Your response to the my other comments drifted off into the nether world.
Scientific American ? really? ..
Are you auditioning as the third member of Dumb and Dumber ??
Why not quote Rolling Stone, or Cleo? they have better scientific reputations.
Its yet another feeble EXCUSE for not predicting the NON-warming of the last 18 or so years.
They are flying blind.. and you are so gullible, stupid and ignorant as to be on board with them. DOH !
Enjoy the crash.. coming soon ! 🙂
The impending switch back will invariably result in a new era of marked and unabated temperature increases that correlate exactly with increases anthropogenically generated CO2 increases – a trend that only the most gullible, naive and most members of the Tea Party could possibly deny.
That’s quite a claim! 😆
So none of this has to do with rebounding from the LIA? Or the pattern we see of interglacials warming, right up to the next ice age?
Would any of this rhetoric be based upon alarmist modeling, and alarmist claims? The very models that failed to predict 18+ years of zero net warming, and very the people who have their careers, homes, and futures invested in this most lucrative of shams? And most certainly not from the same models and people who are part of the multi-trillion dollar Climate Change Industry?
It seems I am detecting a conflict of interest here.
Could this hyperbole also be from the same people who cherry picked 1979 as the “normal” of the Earth’s climate?
According to the GAO, annual federal climate spending has increased from $4.6 billion in 2003 to $8.8 billion in 2010, amounting to $106.7 billion over that period. The money was spent in four general categories: technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, science to understand climate changes, international assistance for developing countries, and wildlife adaptation to respond to actual or expected changes. Technology spending, the largest category, grew from $2.56 billion to $5.5 billion over this period, increasingly advancing over others in total share. Data compiled by Joanne Nova at the Science and Policy Institute indicates that the U.S. Government spent more than $32.5 billion on climate studies between 1989 and 2009. This doesn’t count about $79 billion more spent for climate change technology research, foreign aid and tax breaks for “green energy.”
How much of this $101,500,000,000 went to disproving CAGW?
Do you even know what the IPCC charter is?
We know one thjing, your arrogance is only exceded by your ignorance, or lack of honesty.
Heck, I’ll even concede that both exceed your arrogance.
Care to disprove the null hypothesis?
Wandering Jet stream? Actually Gail was referring to the loopiness of the jet stream. This exact change has happened before. Some think it may have to due with a weak sun, but bottom line, it brings Arctic cold air further south, and warm air further north. There is not s shred of evidence your SUV has any cause in this. Apparently the CAGW proponents are climate change deniers.
As to the change in the PDO, remember the AMO has yet to change to its cold phase, but it is starting to turn. The PDO has temporarily shifted somewhat positive again, and will likely but not definitely revert back. If both AMO and PDO enter a cool phase, in conjunction with a strong la Nina, look out for a large step down, just as we had upward steps during the positive or warming ocean current phases. Skeptics for years have talked about ocean currents affecting GAT. Only a CAGW alarmist could think they are one way, and only cause cooling.
“temperature increases that correlate exactly with increases anthropogenically generated CO2 increases”
Yep, the “ADJUSTMENTS” (lol) to the GISS data have an R^2 value of 0.99.
That cannot be coincidence. Gavin et al have MADE SURE of it. ! 🙂
Its anthropogenic warming for sure…. just not in the way you seem to think.
Gail, is all Ok? What have you been up to? Nice to see you posting again.
Gail is Ok. She responded on another thread to a similar inquiry. She is just busy with her spring time chores and animal husbandry.
“I will never stop deriving pure joy from seeing fools continue to conflate “weather” with “climate”,
Yep, one slightly warm day, one normal hurricane.. (whoops.. no lets call it a superstorm)a tiny not so global temperature change based on adjustments rather than reality….
…. and off you guys go ……. its AGW high farce, on a mix of hallucinogens and steroids.
Hilarious to watch. 🙂
istasz, try to stop deriving pure joy for a brief moment and tell us how you determine the global temperature that describes the “long term warming trend”?
““long term warming trend”?”
From the LIA, thankfully !! Imagine every year like this year in NE USA. People would come their senses about the NON-effect of CO2 as a warming force pretty darn quickly. !
Unfortunately that small warming trend ceased 18 or more years ago. 🙁
But began 150 years ago and will continue unabated, scientific ignorance not withstanding
Why do you keep bring your scientific ignorance into it. We don’t need reminding !
Your rancid juvenile posts are enough for that.
The warming has CEASED.. get used to it..
and the high probability of a cooling phase to come, naturally.
Hello troll. Your religion is the thing not being taken seriously by the world in general. It’s all back to coal (your worst nightmare, I believe) and common sense everywhere but in the U.S. People just aren’t interested in climate change because you socialists have so screwed up Western economies in general. Have a good day.
This is @istaz. I was a little slow posting and it appears I missed most of the party.
Hi Dubya,
As long as coal is being eliminated in my socialist realm I an perfectly content.
Is not going to happen.
Once the realisation by people that they have been defrauded by the anti-CO2 cult agenda, coal will continue to grow in its use, even faster than it will anyway.
Isn’t it strange that the biggest socialist/communist country in the world is the one given free rein to increase their CO2 usage until 2030. Increasing they use of coal, as they try to reach up to the living standards of the developed countries… while the internal totalitarian socialists, like you, do their best to take the developed country’s living standards back down to the lowest common denominator that they represent.
Thanks to countries like China, India, and the up-and coming Africa nations, the world can continue to rely on an every increasing supply of atmospheric CO2, to the benefit of all creatures on Earth. 🙂
Vermont can expect more unseasonal cold and snow next week.
No snow for us here in Indiana but we do get the cooler than normal weather. Highs in the 50s forecast for almost the whole week!
Don’t count yourself out of the snow, yet. The stuff in Colorado and Wyoming is due to go east in the next week.
istasz says:

This time I will use the technical terms and back up what I say with reference papers. The Jet stream has gone from zonal to meridional flow. That is from straight to loopy or wandering Jets. This is NOT NEW. It was well known back in the 1960s and 70s when it was called the Canadian Clipper or Polar Express.
Since you have trouble following a train of thought I will be more careful. This is about what changes in the sun’s irradiation spectrum does to the atmospheric ozone that causes the jets to switch from zonal to meridional flow.
Sun, Ozone, Polar Jet and the Brewer-Dobson Circulation
Let me see if I can trace the different steps via various papers. No one has put it together in one paper because it would kill or at least challenge CAGW.
I will start with this reference:
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GENERAL CIRCULATION OF THE ATMOSPHERE AND THE GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION OF TOTAL OZONE AS DETERMINED BY THE NIMBUS III SATELLITE INFRARED INTERFEROMETER SPECTROMETER

Top-Down Solar Modulation of Climate: evidence for centennial-scale change
Blocking is a characteristic of meridional flow.
NASA has finally admitted that the sun is not constant and although the Total Solar Insolation is relatively constant the distribution of the energy among wavelengths is not. This is the critical point.
2007 was before the deep solar minimum.
“…A 12-year low in solar “irradiance”: Careful measurements by several NASA spacecraft show that the sun’s brightness has dropped by 0.02% at visible wavelengths and 6% at extreme UV wavelengths since the solar minimum of 1996….” science(DOT)nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2009/01apr_deepsolarminimum/
NASA has also admitted different wavelengths of sunlight do different things in different parts of the atmosphere.
Solar Spectral Irradiance Data
Typical denier – makes something simple, like a pause in warming i.e. to the PDO, into an elaborate Rube Goldberg ruse involving a variable sun. Well, I’ll turn the deniers’ favorite argument back on themselves – the sun has a variable luminosity and has always had one. It plays no more a role in a lull in rising temperatures than any other ill-formed fantasy the right has to offer. Arguments like yours are hidden on the fringes of the web and are not to be taken seriously by 99.999% of the population, to say nothing of the 100% of scientists. In fact, you can string together all the loosely connected arguments you wish, but the answer to whether you could ever get them past an editor in any self-respecting journal is, of course, moot.
I can tell you which side of the debate Occam would be on, and it’s not one based on open ended statements like this “Even small variations in the Sun’s radiation at these short wavelengths will lead to corresponding changes in atmospheric chemistry.” Even if taken as true, you would next have to take the hard (meaning you can’t) step to showing that this mysterious conflation of “complex chemistry” and “solar variation” somehow is canceling out the greenhouse effect for an extended period. Until you show me a model that combines these two and can reconstruct the supposedly flat temperature profile I reserve my right to continue to mock your fantasies .
1- List all climate forcings, order them from most to least effective, and then quantify them.
2- Please provide even one peer reviewed paper that refutes natural variability as the cause of recent, or any, global climate changes.
Should be a piece of cake considering it is “settled” science.
istasz says:
The first time:

The second time:
“…Your response to the my other comments drifted off into the nether world….”
Since when are the remarks of a world leader (Pascal Lamy) on the desire for a world government dating back to the 1930s off topic? SInce when are the actions of a US president that HELPED an enemy of the USA (China) while crippling the USA (exporting jobs, manufacturing capacity and technology) all based on the ‘Progressive theory of Interdependence’ way off base?
YOU brought up a one world government and I provided QUOTES from world leaders and experts and a discription of their actions. Not a nether world dude, REALITY that may soon bite us in the butt and perhaps kill us all.
The Progressives think trade interdependence will make the world peaceful so they gave away US manufacturing, technology and jobs. However the rest of the world is NOT ON THE SAME PAGE (China’s One Hundred Years of Humiliation) and will use that us technology to attack the USA if they feel they can get away with it. China and Russia will use a puppet state like North Korea or Iran so any retaliation is towards the puppets. The classic lets you and he fight the elite are so fond of.

Close-minded low information sheeple seems to be a perfect discription of many of the rank and file progressives like istasz. They would still be whining and whinging about normal Americans being Islamophobies as Jihadi John lopped their head off!
Paranoid much?
I don’t believe Gail to be CO2-phobic, like you.
I’m nonsense-phobic.
You seem scared of these two requests big boy! 😆
1- List all climate forcings, order them from most to least effective, and then quantify them.
2- Please provide even one peer reviewed paper that refutes natural variability as the cause of recent, or any, global climate changes.
There is nothing unusual or unprecedented about our climate, or how we got here. For 4,500,000,000 years climates have always changed, naturally. This means there has been a set precedent, and the burden of proof falls on natural climate change deniers like yourself.
“I’m nonsense-phobic.”
How can you possibly live with yourself then??
You must be perpetually scared of yourself.
You poor child-mind !!
Nope, I am a narapoid.
Personally, since I have no children, I am very much looking forward to witnessing the arrival of the next glaciation. (Don’t forget Dr Alley found Climate change is abrupt with the switch from the Wisconsin Ice Age to the Holocene occuring in ONE YEAR.)
Going back 2 million years and looking at the archaeological evidence we see climate change has actually been very good for the human species. Our brain case size has
experienced dramatic increases, in fits and starts, going from about 500 cubic
centimeters (cc) to about 2,500cc in the last 2-3 million years. When ever periods of
global cooling caused temperatures to plummet in Africa, the cooler drier air resulted in humid woodlands dying off giving way to wide, dry grasslands. So humanoids had to smarten up right quick and deal with the changes or die out.
Via numerous glaciations, the increased braincase size of our humanoid ancestors increased. It is interesting to note that the braincase size of modern humans is decreasing… …for the last 10,000 years, the human brain has been shrinking at an alarming rate and no one really knows why…
Looks like Ma Gaia is getting ready for another cleansing of the gene pool even as the Warmist fools are denying the evidence. “…So the question really begs to be asked. Will it take another (let’s call it the next, since its actually time for the next one now) ice age to “smarten us up” some more? ….”

The big picture: 65 million years of temperature
A. The temperature of earth long term is cooling.
B. The climate system has negative feed back
C. At present the climate is a bistable chaotic system with the more stable state being frozen.

Figure 5. Dansgaard-Oeschger oscillations with their cycle designations. (Sole et al, 2007)
The Holocene is on the left notice how the brief D-O warmings do not last….
https://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/sole-et-al-2007-fig-11.jpg?w=876
Dansgaard-Oeschger oscillations are abrupt warmings that occurred from just a few years to mere decades. They average between 8-10C rises (D-O 19 scored 16C). The nominal difference between earth’s cold (glacial) and warm (interglacial) states are on the order of 20C. D-O events average 1470 years with a range of 1-4kyrs. During the Holocene D-O oxcillations are muted and called Bond events.
Until ClimAstrologists can explain what causes Dansgaard-Oeschger oscillations and Bond events
they are just blowing smoke when they say “The science is settled”
