Sea level has risen 50 metres in the last 10,000 years. McKibben has absolutely no clue what he is talking about.

Climate has been changing constantly during the Holocene, rising to the Holocene Optimum and then a downhill roller coaster of warming and cooling to the present day.
This guy does not have a clue what he is talking about.
Oh, well. He is only an ignorant journalist who is supposed to be informing the public. Why should we think that he should know anything about what he writes?

Excellent link. But, according to McKibben, it looks like those food production graphs are all upside down. Models probably show that food production will decline catastrophically when sea levels flood all the farmland below… what was the latest prediction again? Anyhow, it will be bad. Especially with all the earthquakes.

Isostasy doesn’t affect average sea level. When one region goes up, another region has to go down to compensate.

I was talking about biases media reporting in Europe with my son who is in university the other day. Based on one of his courses, he told me that the media in Europe, e.g. newspapers, are very different than in North America. He said that students are taught that the different media are in fact biased and have very specific political and social slants. That people know and accept this. The Guardian is a good example of this.
Here our media are `supposed’ to be neutral and purport to cover stories in a balanced fashion. We of course know that this is not true.
What about it? I’m throwing this out to the readers on the other side of the pond. Alex’s prof. could be mistaken or Alex may have misinterpreted.
As most of the Holocene has been warmer than now, why does McKibben think the last 10000 yrs have been such a good time to build a civilisation?
This “Moonbat” McKibben is about one loose wheel from a tricycle wreck. Hilarious to watch but very sad to see that the concept of “real world data” is often too foreign for him to grasp.
Relatively few people read the Guardian and the vast majority of those who do are civil servants or in receipt of state munificence for providing services that the general public have no use for.
They all however have an overweening sense of self importance; apart from that they have very little sense at all.
