The oceanic crust is about six miles thick, and floats on top of gigantic convective cells originating over a thousand miles down in the mantle. The movement of these convective cells is what causes plate tectonics and earthquakes like the Japanese quake last month. Relative to the size of the sphere it sits on, the crust is thinner than an apple skin.
By some amazing new climate science principle, an increase of 0.0001 atmospheric CO2 concentration over the crust is affecting the speed of convection in the mantle thousands of miles below it.
(And they wonder why we think that climate science is the chosen profession among morons.)
SUVs, pickup and minivans, especially those driven by straight, white Christian males, are also spinning the earth’s tectonic plates and causing earthquakes!
Every time a cow farts the Earth shakes.
First they have to prove that intensification of Indian monsoons is linked to global warming…..
….and not weather
And since weather has not cooperated with any of their predictions, the chance of that is zero.
“Science by press-release” is sooooo tiresome.
Same with conclusions based on computer models.
Stuck on Stupid
I heard in school from a teacher that some people believe that if all the Chinese people in china were to all jump at the same time the entire world would shake! I also think this theory was reported by many in the media.
softpedia.com: “The question is not as silly as it looks, actually” lol

The India plate is pushing under the Eurasian Plate causing the Himalayas to grow which is intensifying the Monsoon which is causing more erosion and that increases the size of Bangladesh. There is no feed baqck required as the plate has been moving for some time any changes in weather patterns in that region are related to changes in geological formations.
So an erosion effect, observable (maybe) over 10 million years, has been exacerbated by 30 years of climate change? I’ll take a stab in the dark and assume the variations in monsoon and continental drift are not plotted in 10 year data points. When stuff like this comes out, normal AGW believers must wonder if they’ve joined a side full of nutters and liars.
Any…….. and I mean ANY GEOLOGIST knows that the position of the plates, tectonics, etc causes changes in long term climate, not the other way around.
I guess when Nova Scotia was near the equator, that it moved north because it was warm!
I’m going to have to put this one in a talk. It is priceless.
It does sound like they got it completely backwards, doesn’t it?
Who was it that said, “It’s not important to end up on the right side as it is NOT to end up on the side of the insane.”?
Here is a translation from of an interesting comment of one of the authors of the article :
The impact of climate on the tectonic plates should not be over-interpret. «I was surprised […] to see that some media had made the connection with the Japanese earthquake, an unjustified amalgam» says Laurent Husson. There is no relationship between the warming of the last century and the phenomenon [the article] describes, which, it is to be specified, takes place over millions of years.
Well, so much Laurent, AGW is a monster which has been created and you are now a cell of it.
At least they’re postulating that the changes occur over tens of millions of years. Claiming that the last 100 years have had any noticeable effect is total lunacy.
This and other such absurdities arise when people believe in the “Butterfly Effect”, that the beat of a butterfly’s wings in China can lead to a hurricane on the American east coast.
The Effect is another fallacy based on limited thinking. Threshold limitations, dissipation of energy through laws of thermodynamics, the buffering effect of other forces and the overwhelming influence of unconnected events stops the Butterfly Effect from occurring, yet even intelligent people believe in it. The concept of “it could” or “it might” stops them from reasonably concluding that “it doesn’t” or “it won’t”.
Lord help us if scientific elites ever got power over our society. The politicos are bad enough.
According to the limited numbers of direction arrows around the Pacific plate, it seems this solid plate is moving to the northwest, north, and southeast all at the same time.
How can this be? Is something wrong with the arrows or the hypotheses?
New crust is being formed all the time at spreading centers in the ocean. Molasses spreads in every direction.
