Osama Bin Laden dead: White House backtracks on how bin Laden died
The White House admitted last night that its initial account of the way Osama bin Laden died at the hands of US forces had been riddled with errors.
The original story was that Obama and Bill Clinton’s wife watched the whole thing live in the White House. Now we find out that the story they told was wrong. Originally they told us that there was a 45 minute gun battle. Now we find out Osama was unarmed. Originally they told us that he used his wife for a human shield. Now we find out that isn’t true.
How did Obama and Hillary think they saw a 45 minute gun battle, if there wasn’t actually a gun? I noticed when I first saw the video of his room that there weren’t any bullet holes visible.
Why did they dispose of the “body” so quickly? This White House is messed up beyond comprehension.
Now, now, let’s go easy on the poor tykes in the White House. After all, they’re not accustomed to telling the truth or being held accountable by their lap-dog press.
Facts can be soooooo inconvenient.
Like the vaunted “original certificate of live birth” released last week. I mean, forget that it’s clearly NOT a scan of a paper document but a hopelessly amateur-ish assemblage of digital snippets masquerading as a coherent whole. This is equivalent to the Zapruder film with 5 seconds of Road Runner v. Wily Coyote inserted in the middle.
D’oh!
These guys can’t even lie convincingly.
This crew makes Nixon look like an American hero.
Order a military operation which successfully eradicates the most villified man in the Western World, and turn it into a PR disaster?
Yes, we can!
OBL Is really vacationing in Hawaii and they shot his body double!
The thing that cracks me up is that the politicians who were so against waterboarding, and loud music and sleep deprivation techniques of interrogation are so rapt about putting a bullet in his head, as if the former is so horrible and the latter is not so bad.
Have to agree Steve with you on this one. It seems like they told what my daughter would class as “fibs” just after to deflect any sort of critisism, problem is that meant they had to go into the land of bullshit.
I said just after they said about the human shield this was likely too good to be true, and it was. I did get a lot of stick about it on other forums though.
Now we find out he was unarmed. But still resisting arrest. A 60 year bloke in his nightware with no weapons resisting the US Navy Seals so much so he had to be killed. Doesn’t ring true. His wife seems to have attacked the team and got shot in the leg, however unlucky Osama got at least one in the head.
Why don’t the Whitehouse just admit to the fact he was taken out and forget all this charade about capturing him? Nobody would shed a tear about that being too much of an injustice. If he had been captured and prosecuted it would have meant many other hostages being taken to try and get him out, so I am not surprised, but why all the bullshit to go with it?
Andy
Did you actually watch the video? There was a gun battle, just not with Osama.
I’m not sure where the “human shield” reports originated from. Possibly the media, who might have blown up the report of his wife rushing the assault team, putting herself between them and Osama.
No, show me the link where they were fighting.
It was not from the media, it was from US government sources who said that a human shield was used and that Osama Bin Laden was armed, both are now known to be untrue. No doubt the resisting part is false too.
They just wanted to make it whiter than white when they need not have bothered. They should just have told the truth, nobody would be too unhappy.
Andy
The fog of war. Initially, a woman was used as a human shield, tho (in those accounts I heard) not necessarily for the benefit of his holiness, bin laden.
If you’re an extraction team sent into an unfamiliar location to engage opposition and find and either capture or kill a target, you may not choose perfectly. The whole operation has an unknown outcome. They encountered armed opposition. They arrived very noisily via chopper. So, they come at a disadvantage. The situation didn’t end in disaster as in the Carter attempt, so we should be glad for that. The situation is EXTREMELY difficult. But the WH messaging is Amateurish.
There are all kinds of non-lethal technologies which could have been used to incapacitate – had the intention been to capture.
