Pennsylvania Resident Wants To Stop 160 Year Long Glacial Retreat

The glacier was retreating with CO2 at 280 ppm. What exactly does this genius want us to do?

Glaciers show need to stop global warming

June 19, 2011

In 1977, I visited Glacier National Park in Montana to see Grinnell Glacier, which is accessible only by foot. The trail is approximately 10 miles round trip and climbs about 1,600 feet. All hikers who go onto the glacier must be accompanied for safety reasons by a park ranger who has rope and crampon spikes for shoes. The ranger took us onto the extremely large glacier.

Recently while searching the Internet, I found current photos of Grinnell Glacier. The place where I was standing in 1977 no longer exists. The glacier, which had been several hundred feet thick and several square miles in size, has melted to the point that it is approximately 20 percent of the size in 1977.

In 2003, U.S. Geological Survey predicted that all glaciers in Glacier National Park would be completely gone by 2030. In 2007, USGS revised this date to 2022. It is hard to dispute personal and photographic evidence of disappearing glaciers in Glacier National Park. Our weather will continue to provide more severe droughts, more flooding, hotter summers, colder winters and more tornados until a way is found to stop global warming

Let’s go into an ice age.
    Its easy-
Change the exhaust output of commercial airliners to produce particulates. The particulates will reduce solar energy reaching the Earth’s surface and we’ll freeze.

When I meet an antagonist in this debate, I try to take a sidewinder approach. Rather than immediately argue the science and hypotheses, I like to take the following approach (remember I live in Ottawa, Canada):

“Sir, I suppose you think the planet is TOO HOT. How COLD would you like it?” This completely throws them off track. This is especially effective in winter đŸ˜‰

I’m so tired of morons spouting stuff they obviously know nothing about.

Boo hoo, glaciers are melting and leaving us more arable land and more water in our water cycle……boy I sure do hate that stuff. And more places for flora and fauna and places for people to live……… I just hate it when nature works to benefit the life forms of the world!!!! It needs to stop and it needs to stop now!!!!

      You’ll love this one…..
…what’s the first thing you do when a marine animal, ivert, whatever is stressed?
      You lower the specific gravity

Must have been some really strange cultures in the past…
…they built, lived, and farmed under glaciers

Colder winters if we don’t stop global warming? Sounds a bit contradictory if not downright silly. Maybe we will have warmer winters and cooler summers and we will live happily ever after.

Robert (Ottawa), same thing out west here. I visited the Columbia Icefields in the Rockies here back in 1977 and have a photo and i was up against the glacier. Now, yup, you have to walk up over the hill and continue a long ways to get to it….but….most people don’t see the signs at the highway, which shows the ice way back there! The sign…1850.
I don’t have a map of how far and how fast it proceeded to melt, but I’m guessing the same thing as this article…most of the melt took place before 350….

In other (fake but believable) news …

BREAKING: A recently thawed out Cro-Magnon is touring NYC and urging action on Climate change.

“When I was frozen 30 thousand years ago, none of these buildings were here”. As he pointed skyward at the Empire State Building, he continued: “We used to walk and hunt way, way up there, actually *four* times as high as that eyesore! Now it’s gone. It’s all gone!”

“What am I to do now? Don’t you people realize that the Earth is sacred and these artificial caves must be removed.” After the mayor gave him a key to the city the caveman caused a ruckus by spearing one of the horses ridden by his police escort.

“You would think people wouldn’t be so squeamish about catching dinner!” said the visitor who glared at the shocked on-lookers. “Where do you think your meat comes from, dumbass?”.

It was not known at press-time whether Mayor Bloomberg would cave to his demands and begin demolishing midtown Manhattan. “First we need to check with our climate scientists to see what we can do to return to an Ice-Age.” said the Mayor.

A few years ago, I read somewhere that there were no glaciers in what is now Glacier National Park during the Medieval Warm Period. I haven’t been able to find any references recently. Can anyone find anything in this regard?
