This is the headline story on Drudge.
The danger is pretty close to zero, for two reasons.
- The nuclear material is well protected.
- The chances of the fire reaching any facilities are very small.
I spent a good part of the day running NCAR’s WRF weather model, and there are a couple of things going on which are relevant. The humidity has gone way up with a good chance of rain tomorrow. Also the wind is likely to shift to NW tomorrow – which will blow the fire away from Los Alamos and the laboratories. My observers on the ground in Santa Fe tell me that the WRF forecast for today was perfect.
I’ll release more detail later.
Yesterday Drudge made a big deal out of 114 degree weather in Phoenix – as if that was unusual at the end of June. Also, the picture above is sun shining through smoke – not fire. Enough alarmism, please.
Meh, Drudge is a nutter: He actually links to sites run by Alex Jones. Alex being the Jones who should, but doesn’t, provide refreshing drinks for his followers.
All in all, Drudge is ok. He has had to weather enormous pressure (Clinton-Lewinsky scandal) all the while building this new media from the ground up with no help from either political party. He is very First Amendment but not a reliable patriot in the Founders or Constitutional sense.
Having said that, he does have a soft underbelly when it comes to climate crap. He is probably a lukewarmer these days. Perhaps it is from being based in Miami (last I heard anyway).
Agreed about Alex Jones who’s link should have been removed after 9/11 when he started cozying up to the ‘inside job’ mental cases. If you are going to include him on that page, well, you had better include everyone. Last I looked he had quite a blogroll-linklist of leftist garbage anyway so maybe he does include everyone now.
Drudge is on someone’s laptop in every major television news studio and editor’s room in America. Drudge has run more stories helpful to the skeptic’s cause than any other news aggregator in the world. Yeah, sure he runs silly things like that Phoenix thing but overall, God bless Matt Drudge.

Meanwhile it’s snowing in California.
