Back in the 1970s, Briffia of CRU discovered a very strong 35 year cycle in tree ring widths, which he announced at a scientific conference. I told him about the Bruckner cycle, which he had never heard of. I don’t think he ever published his re-discovery of the Bruckner cycle.
Bruckener is not relevant as he didn’t computer model his finding. If he did he would have found that all that wood burning was the cause of the inland sea rise.
Where is Professor Gregory now? We need him to sort out the hydrography of the Southern Ocean for a few hundred pounds per annum to enable Australia’s rainfall to be determined a year or two ahead.
In science it often happens that scientists say, ‘You know that’s a really good argument; my position is mistaken,’ and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn’t happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.
