    Interesting that one.
The UN can’t stop massacres. Yet it thinks it can stop Climate Change. Says it all really.

  2. tckev says:

As far as I understand it, in UN speak a “UN peacekeeper force” is euphemism for a witness/antagonist to outrages and atrocities, that may or may not be reported properly afterwards.

  3. Old Goat says:

Kofi Annan always strikes me as being weak and inneffectual – bit like the rest of the UN.

    • Baa Humbug says:

In a dictionary, the definition of ‘softly spoken evil’ would have a picture of him.
The UN objective is to prolong a crisis. This ensures jobs for the rent seeking carpetbaggers.

    • Eric Simpson says:

Worse case would be if the third world joke of a U.N. became strong and effectual. Now O is trying to outsource our own govt to the U.N.. Don’t let it happen; get the U.S. out of U.N., and get the U.N. out of the U.S., and get O out of the W House.

In April 1993, the United Nations declared the besieged enclave of Srebrenica in the Drina Valley of north-eastern Bosnia a “safe area” under UN protection. However, in July 1995, the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR), represented on the ground by a 400-strong contingent of Dutch peacekeepers, Dutchbat, did not prevent the town’s capture by the VRS and the subsequent massacre.

    • Robertvdl says:

The Dutch soldier is not to blame for this. They too are used in this game. ? It was the Dutch Goverment and the UN who failled to listen to it’s own people. The soldiers who where there had already asked for surport lots of times. They took pictures and made movies to prove what was going on there. But nobody listend to them. And that still kills them inside everyday.

  5. Robertvdl says:

If true is this not what the US is doing in the rest of the world with drones fighting the same people.

  6. Laurence Crossen says:

Sometimes I think competing governments might be preferable to global government…

  7. kirkmyers says:

The U.S would like to do to Syria what it did to Libya. Most the so-called freedom fighters in Syria are in fact terrorist mercenaries — Al Qaeda operatives, Wahabis and Salafists — armed by the U.S. and its Gulf partners Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The U.S. government wants to replace the moderate and independent Assad-led Alawite government with a puppet Sunni regime it can control. If the fundamentalists take over, you can expect to see widespread massacres of Christians and Shite Muslims. The U.S. isn’t waging a war >i<against terrorism; it’s waging a war of terrorism..

    • Eric Simpson says:

Getting involved in the Libyan debacle was pointlessly stupid, squandering our international goodwill, all for the sake of, arguably, propping up our enemy. I think you’re 100% right about Syria. Let’s not get anywhere near that Pandora’s box. Keep Obama & neocons at bay on this one.
P.S. I’m with you, also, with the frustration of getting all those html italics tags and the like all set right before posting. Of course, while many things about this wordpress comment system are great (including its lightweight quick loading performance), I suspect at some point they will add edit and preview features.
