why are you making things so confusing? When I compare other sources: yes, 1936 was the hottest summer on record. 2012 is claimed to be the 3rd hottest, after 2011 and 1936. August was just “warmer than average” (the difference was made in July). So what do you want to prove?
If you want to compare summers, then compare june-august, not just august. And you can still prove that 1936 is hotter. Everybody happy.

Any way you slice it, any comparison you want to make with real (unfudged) data, 2012 is not even in the same ballpark with 1936.
Any remnants of integrity at NOAA left the station earlier this year.
