One more rule. Average weather is adjusted upwards.

Don’t mind those Brits. There’s a reason why Britain is called “the looney bin of Europe”.

  2. Halloween is David Appell’s favourite holiday. Now the Deniers really have him pissed…

  3. ntesdorf says:

    I love it! Goddard’s Law.

    1. Warm Weather Is Global Warming.
    2. Cold Weather Is Climate Change.
    3. All weather data is adjusted upwards.

    • Andy DC says:

I think it is funny when the alarmists first run any and all skeptics out of town (or intimidate them into keeping their mouths shut), then claim their adjustments are “peer reviewed”.

    • Ray says:

You can probably add another to this list, i.e.
      4. Normal Weather Is Climate Change.
I think it is only a matter of time before we are told this.
In fact, when I think about it, we already have been.

    • Mike S says:

Historical temperatures are adjusted downwards. How do they figure that needs doing?

    Mosher says quote:
“Nasa does not change the data of the past.
GISSTEMP is a computer program that estimates the global “average “temperature of the past and present. It relies on inputs made available by other sources, GHCN, and SCAR.”

I find that incredulous having been a regular reader of CA since 2006. There is no question Hansen has been fiddling with data without the help of GHCN or other source’s “updates”.

    • suyts says:

Mosh is just being Mosh on that issue. Mosh’s point is GISS doesn’t change the data they get, just the interpretation of the data they have. My position is that it renders GISS’s interpretation useless for any science work. And useless for any establishment of a record set.

I think anyone embracing a dynamic historical perspective is dangerous.

      • Dynamic historical perspective… the past changes according to what happens in the future. Seems to be a problem with the arrow of time there but not being a climate scientist I’m not really qualified to comment…

    • kirkmyers says:

So the science magicians at NASA GISS don’t manipulate the temperatura data, they merely rely on computer inputs that have been manipulated? Ah, the beauty of climate models. You can make them tell you whatever you want. And they never talk back.

      At that WUWT thread …

Ric Werme [September 26, 2012 at 1:39 pm] says:

Steven Mosher [September 26, 2012 at 11:20 am] says:

“To put it simply. we don’t know the temperature of the past.”

“If “we don’t know the temperature of the past,” then how do we know there is global warming?”

Ric cuts right to the chase. No reply from Mosher of course.

  5. Me says:

You’d think the mellons would be happy over this news of Halloween cancelled, as it would save all their pumpkin brethren! 😆

  6. The old Seadog. says:

Pumpkins? We always used Swedes ( or Mangleworzels) when we were kids.

    • Ray says:

I remember that we used to use Turnips in the 1950’s.
Well we called then Turnips but maybe they were really Swedes.
I think that Pumpkins are a relatively new introduction for Halloween.
Turnips were harder to hollow out, so kids today have it easier.

  7. LLAP says:

Too bad about that cold weather … you need pumpkins grown in “global warming” conditions to do this:

  8. And Heidi Cullen is now hedging her bets on 2012’s place in the record books because of potential cold weather? https://twitter.com/HeidiCullen/status/251010801794691072

” Barring unusual cold, 2012 should be hottest year on record in the U.S. “

The Arctic is “Climate Changing” again:

    http://arctic-roos.org/observations/satellite-data/sea-ice/observation_images/ssmi1_ice_ext.png

It’s freezing backwards through time, and will cross 2007 extents shortly… brrrrrrr.

    • TomC says:

As I’ve been saying, with all the sea ice the satellites had been missing there’s going to be the “fastest freeze-up ever” once the satellites start seeing all the ice again. For example, there’s a rather large section of ice along the northeast coast of Siberia shown in Anchorage’s sea ice page that the satellites haven’t been showing since early August

    • kirkmyers says:

It will be interesting to hear the response of the alarmists when the sea ice refreeze jumps across the 2007 minimum extent. At the current rate of ice reformation, it won’t take long.

As most dispassionate observers are aware (and most mainstream journalists seem unaware of), the rapid decline in sea ice this summer was result of a major Arctic cyclone in early August that blew the ice apart and increased the rate of melt. Even NASA, in a September 18 video, admits that the Arctic cyclone, which began on August 5, “wreaked havoc on the Arctic sea ice cover” by “breaking up sea ice.”

  10. The old Seadog. says:

They forgot to say that Pumpkins need to be just the right state of ripeness to enable Fairy Godmothers to change them into coaches……
