One problem is that bears are losing their fear of humans. It would be a good idea to scare the crap out of bears every time they come into contact with humans. More frequent pepper spraying would reduce the number of bears that end up getting killed by people.
I would not want to get near enough to be able to use Pepper Spray at a Grizzly.
I was in Yellowstone and had a bear become interested in my presence. It was about 100 yards away an Luckily I was at my vehicle. The bear actually chased me down the road and that was in the 70s.
Must have been the global cooling that provoked people
Not the temperature the date was 1974! 🙂 It was October and cold!
Maybe start and end temperatures are not statistically significant from Zero Change but the variability is evident. I have no idea why people think tenths of a degree mean anything, unless they are promoting some scheme.
The Wildlife preservation activities are working and the bears are spreading out to different stomping grounds where more people are moving into making human a more readily available part of the diet.
Hey, grizzly bears eat people. Who knew?
We’re in an era of “lazy science” where if a species is suffering more deaths than usual, AGW is blamed for it because it’s easier than checking for disease, poachers etc.
Note how even though they suggest humans and livestock are more at risk, they didn’t report any figures related to increased attacks from bears, let alone figures of bear mortality causes.
We use to take guns with us into the wilderness, now it’s pepper spray.
We use to shoot bears that proved to be a problem, now we rehabilitate them. Kept them from eating so many of us.
It won’t be long and each bear will need a psychiatrist and my taxes will be required to pay for the program.
What does it cost to bring a wild horse up for adoption? Something like $10-20,000 each? Adopt a Grizzley? Probably the next step.
Well think of how the bear feels! The angst! Aren’t bears people too? 😉
Bet my original next door neighbor would get a real chuckle out of the weird grasp of the natural world that modern society possesses … they lived in what is now known as the Hull House … the original one, not that late-comer in Chicago … the first stone structure in the county, east of Buffalo, built c 1810 (came in handy when those Brits burned the little village of Buffalo (in 1813) during the War of 1812 … all that CO2 they released!!). Bet that Mr. & Mrs. Warren Hull lived in the real world, not the fantasy world of those greenie weenies. Hey, they had to deal with real predators the best they could … you know, eat or be eaten.
Hey, did you know that a bunch of Maratimers got together during `our little war’, zipped down to Washington and burnt the white house? Thats why it is white. They had to make it white to hide the scorch marks.
Then we had a battle and kicked your butts. Then we had another battle and you totally kicked our butts. Then we all decided it was to everyones advantage to just sell and buy everything from each other! They were smart way back then.
A carnivore being forced to eat MEAT? That’s disgusting!
Two hikers spotted a grizzly a short way off – one dropped his pack and started running, shouting “RUN!” to his companion who shouted back “You can’t out run a grizzly!”. His fast disappearing friend retorted “I don’t need to – I just need to outrun YOU!”.
True!!!!
