Climate Scientists Strike Back

Wed Nov. 17, 2010 3:00 AM PST
A year ago this week, the already-heated global warming debate exploded into allegations of a massive scientific fraud when a trove of emails between climate scientists was stolen and posted online. Portions of the emails were cherry-picked and taken out of context to create the impression that researchers were engaged in a sinister plot to mislead the public and silence detractors. Dubbed “ClimateGate” by global warming deniers, the ensuing hype succeeded in further clouding the public’s understanding of climate science.

Never mind that it was a noncontroversy—that myriad models and reams of data have concluded that the planet is warming due to human activity, or that five separate investigations have confirmed that the ClimateGate scientists did nothing improper. In the combustible world of climate denial, the email release added fuel to the fire, reigniting old attacks on science in the blogosphere and among right-wing members of Congress—including a few who are in line to lead powerful House committees next year.

Well, not all, this is a rather incomplete inventory of their e-mails. Its a shame none of the investigations asked for some of the follow-ups. Well, or any of them for that matter.

Its humorous to see the defenders of these “scientists”. They never address the content of the e-mail, except to say, the “trick” to “hide the decline” wasn’t done to hide anything rather is was an accepted mathematical application. 😐 And the code with all the REM statements, doesn’t count because we can’t find where we used it. The request to delete e-mails has never been investigated. Phil says he didn’t delete anything, but they’re gone nonetheless. And it doesn’t matter, the e-mails plainly show a conspiracy to commit a crime on both sides of the ocean.

We have nine hundred climate scientissts ready to spring into action to clear the air of the misinformat…

Um what? [aide whispers in his ear] OK. Got it.

Sorry. I’ll try again. We have thirty eight climate scientists ready at a moments notice to dispel the fog of denialist disinforma…

Huh? What? [aide whispers again] oh come on.

Alright. Let me start over. We have three active semi active climate researchers from various fields, who although their first inclination isn’t to be attack dogs, will occasionally bark, given proper warning, if the time constraints of scheduling are convenient.

I agree – but what we got came to good use and just in time to fork up the COP15

..it was surreal to watch Stephen Schneider order armed UN Police to kick out Mr. “not evil just wrong” in MY country

..and now Stephen Schneider is dead I could say something evil like Phil Jones, but I wont, I don’t write “awful emails”
