Dissonance At The Met Office

They grasp at straws trying to explain hide the slowdown drop in HadCRUT temperatures over the past decade.

Yet they clearly understand that ENSO is the primary driver of yearly global temperature variations.

Why can’t they put two and two together? Pacific Ocean temperatures have dropped considerably since the 1990s, and they continue to drop. Instead of correcting corrupting the HadCRUT database further, why not just deal with reality? The world is getting cooler, and it has nothing to do with Chinese power plants.

Joe Bastardi wrote the following in response to the Met Office today:

FRIDAY NIGHT, AS THE NORTHWEST FREEZES: A RESPONSE TO VICKI POPE COMMENT:

    Here it is:

Theres a very clear warming trend but its not as rapid as it was before, Pope told reporters yesterday in London. Where the average temperature rose at about 0.16 degrees per decade since the 1970s, the rate through the 2000s has been from 0.05 to 0.13 degrees, she said.

No Ms Pope, there is a very clear response to the warming cycle of the PDO and AMO in tandem and you should see the enso response within the background of warming that is caused by the larger multidecadol oscillations. So in the spirit of competition, just like last winter, let me issue another challenge to the UKMET office, which seems to love to trumpet warmth ( he some like it hot, right)

The 2011 temp will FALL to levels comparable to 1999, ACCORDING TO THE OBJECTIVE SATELLITE DATA, EASILY ACCESSED HERE: http://www.drroyspencer.com/latest-global-temperatures/

Game on, just like last winter, the response is to the enso, not co2, just like the response in the coming decades will be to cool as the oceans cool, just like it was to warm like the oceans warm, with the lag as is a well known in any stimulus-response system. And remember, in spite of the best efforts of those that want to twist my words, the cold winter for Europe and the eastern US was made with a forecast for a global SPIKE in temp, simple to see coming due to the nino… Why? The temps respond to the oceanic temp and the deck has been stackjed for warm the last 15-30 years.

Do me a favor, if you are wrong, dont quit, like you did with seasonal forecasting, just open your minds a bit. I do like the office as a whole, and do think they are good at what they do. Truth be told I dont want them judged by their worst day, but will challenge them when I dont agree, and obviously a challenge looms here and has been issued. The forecast is made. lets see what becomes of it and the link is there for all to watch, no fudging or adjustments from previous decades.

Okay, fair enough.. a challenge on the objective field of battle for all to watch

They now have a chance to tie this up if the global temp does not fall.

And if they admit it has to fall, then my point is made as to what the cause is! ciao for now ****

  2. Why can’t they put two and two together?

Well, they could if they didn’t have to find a way to blame everything on CO2.

  3. suyts says:

Heh, I can’t just imagine alarms going off when they see the trend lines……….’quick, make adjustments!’

  4. John Blake says:

The day the Met Office issues a valid forecast will be the day after every single Climate Cultist is tossed out in the snowdrifts, replaced will half-way decent researchers possessing character and integrity sufficient to withstand Warmists’ rampant propaganda exercises. Meantime, anyone who grants these prevaricating parasites any credibility whatever has only himself to blame.

  5. Mohatdebos says:

I don’t understand why you keep picking on the Met Office. They are only trying to ensure that mighty Britain stays relavent. Keep in mind that the sun set on the British Empire long ago. They can only convince themselves they remain important by making up imaginary scare stories.

While you are at it, note that if China, the rising power, can have a market economy with socialist characteristics, it certainly is possible for them to burn coal that warms the earth even while it is cooling it.

  6. MikeTheDenier says:

It’s all that dark matter in the universe concentrating on the Milky Way that’s blocking our sunlight 🙂

  7. ChrisD already told us noise in the system makes trend wrong. The data is ok, he says. But the trend you get from the data is affected by noise in the system in a way that makes trend unreliable. He said you can’t trust trend—ever. So that slight cooling trend is really a warming trend.

    ;O)

    • Mike Davis says:

Noise in the system is just another signal that has not been interpreted. The noise could be communications directed at the SETI group! 😉

  8. Lazarus says:

“Pacific Ocean temperatures have dropped considerably since the 1990s, and they continue to drop.”

Have you cherry picked the Pacific because recent estimates of ocean heat show continued warming of the upper ocean? This is confirmed by independent estimates of ocean heat as measurements of ocean heat down to 2000 metres deep.
