Two years ago this week the press told us that the Democratic Party had assumed permanent ruling status over the US.
They predicted that catastrophe wrong, but are still forecasting that we will all drown or fry from global warming. Have things changed that much? Not really.
Here is what the press didn’t want to talk about in 2008.

Obama never had much support in 70% of the country. Presidential elections can be dominated by a few large cities. Congress doesn’t suffer that affliction.
Democrat power base in mostly in the cities, large cities.
Note that in Washington and Oregon state, they are very obvious.
I live in Eastern Washington state and it is almost devoid of democrats.
Yeh, it is horribly sad. The people that feed people can’t get represented properly.
Steven’s state is a great example. Why they gotta be like that?
The Colorado Senate race will be interesting. Right now, the liar is ahead 50% to 45%, but the rural counties always report last.
Just tightened way up, >60% of numbers still out.
It’s quite alright that Dems hold the Senate, because they have this to contend with in 2012. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2012
I know that the blue you see in Wisconsin and Iowa is because of Unions and farm subsidies.
Pelosi out as Speaker.
No more stupid pictures of her with that oversized gavel.
I hope America was shamed enough by having her as Speaker that no one like her can be there again for a generation.
Bower in close win.
typo
Boxer in close win.
Less than 1%

I guess people in the central valley enjoy their desert. Over all a great night especially governor races and the big wins in states like Penn, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Florida.
92% of calls that came in to Boxers office for the TARP bailout vote were against it. She still voted yes. I guess slightly more than 1/2 of California is ok with that.
Unbelievably, Reid is leading.
“Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.”
~Einstein
How any sane person could vote for Reid is beyond comprehension.
Reid supported his current opponent during the campaign so he would not have to face anyone who had a chance of winning such as Sue Lowden. It is a wonderful political trick that has been played before. Provide funding to the least able opponent during the primaries and do every thing after to promote their weaknesses.
I spent 53 years in Nevada and met Reid in 1967. I have not voted for him since as I took an immediate dislike for the person and his agenda, which was obvious even then.
There are some positives having Reid be the face of the Dems in Congress as he is a negative on the National level. The morons in Nevada and their 14+% unemployment deserve him.
JonP: Yes they do! When people in the state were playing the housing market as a way to make a living rather than producing something. When every other person moving into the state was an entrepreneur with a sure fire way of ripping others off.
I think Nevada might just beat California to be the next waste land / Ghost state. Since it was made a state Nevada has always been a Boom /Bust State.
Mmmm… Fallout New Vegas is cool…
Anyone have info on prop 23? The CA SoS looks like it is going to be crashed the rest of night.
23 losing, will take a miracle for it to win.
Boxer, Brown, global warming regulation—sounds about California’s speed. Now if they can add in even more highway construction that is over-priced and slower finishing, and even more graffiti on the fences, and even more teenage kids walking down the street smoking marijuana, and even more bike riders that come out of the bike lane intentionally into car lanes to prove no one can tell them they have to stay in the bike lane, and illegal immigrants given the right to vote…….
life will be perfect there—because there’s isn’t quite enough of it all yet
Nevermind — prelim 42% for 58% against
prelim 42% for 58% against
Ya baby, bring on those regulations!
Hey, what’s that sucking sound in California? It all the businesses being sucked out of the State by better offers from other States.
I don’t think Reid truly won. There were accounts of SEIU managed voting machines that automatically inserted Reid’s name when you voted GOP.
They “claimed” to have straightened it out. I think there was widespread cheating across the country. We need to clean up the voting process in every state to protect from this.
Boxer looks to be in dead heat with Fiorina. Boxer gone would be a nice consolation prize.
It’s already been called for Boxer. They are probably right.
Boxer lead has gone up from just under 1% to just over 1%.
Well, it isn’t as good as I hoped, but it is much better than what we had! Nice butt hurt for Obowa! I’m betting he’ll be indignant rather than learn. I hated Clinton, but at least he understood political realities. I don’t think Obowa does or can.
California is SO screwed. They got Moonbeam AND the Boxonaut. But now when they turn to Uncle HoaxieChangie for a bailout, they’ll find the GOP holds the purse now.
I hope the Tea Party movement grows, and the process that just occurred can continue for several more elections. We can’t do anything without clear majorities…. large enough to make constitutional amendments.
In the House, it was a rout. If not for the cheating, they might have taken the Senate as well. We’ll just have to double down next go round…
Tea Party and GOP did not manage to ‘kill the beast’.
With Barbara Boxter and Harry Reid still in the seat, a Democratic Senate Majority although very small, still in place, all Czars still on the job and Proposition 23 intact this will be seen as a big encouragement to push though some kind of National Climate Legislation, even Cap & Trade during one of the infamous Lame Duck Sessions. They simply will not give up.
The US will be able to absorb the loss of California as a productive hub as most of the industrial activities will be taken over by other US States.
An exodus of jobs and citizens will make it doubtful if California will be able to perform the planned investments.
The introduction of National Climate policies however will be extremely harmful.
Extreme vigilance is required.
I expect an extremely bumpy ride for the upcoming two years and it will be a make or break test for the GOP and the Tea Party. They will have to ‘deliver’ from day one.
An almost impossible task within the current power settings.
Especially because many of the new elected candidates lack experience.
