Des Moines, IA has not set a daily high temperature record in July since 1955. Waterloo, IA only one since 1940.
Washington, DC has not set a monthly high temperature record during the 6 months from April thru October since 1941. Hasn’t the heat island effect intensified since then?
The Naval Observatory in Washington, DC was 108F during 1881, in September no less! No DC area weather station, to the best of my knowledge has ever been that hot again during any month.
So the question is that if global warming is that important, why should this be so? Don’t tell me that the thermometers were less accurate back then. I’d believe that data was more accurate in 1881 than 2010.
They just can not believe that natural weather patterns are part of the global history. Hansen needs to be brought up before Congress again to be asked questios by a real Climate Scientist!

Hansen correlated bad weather with record warming but what if the warming is more the result of his manipulations? GISS is decidedly different from the other temp records. Why is that? Shouldn’t some of the billions being spent on AGW be spent on new and more thermometers (correctly sited) to accurately determine the rate and amplitude of this catastrophic warming? It seems if Hansen puts so much emphasis on the surface temp the least he can do is make it more accurate without resorting to adjustments. Or is he afraid that a better surface temp system would show cooling?

I did not realize that Hansen had supreme control over all things related to temperature. Did I miss Obama mandating him becoming Climate Czar?
Hansen gets to decide by fiat what adjustments are made to GISS? – and then his minions scurry to do the great lords bidding?
And does he also get to decide to limit the quality and location of all the thermometers around the world? And then all other climate scientists just blindly accept whatever he decrees?
Steve alluded to the possibility that those BCP’s were accurate in some post. and all these recent dozens of posts have shown the planet is on the verge of an ice age.
I am sure once the glaciers hit Manhattan, and the west side highway IS under (frozen) water, Hansen will be relieved of his post and get his just due.

If Hansen does not realise that many temperature readings are grossly unreliable then he is totally incompetent.
I suspect he is actually a lot cleverer than that.
Hansen is the one that got NASA the Gig to do NOAA’s work of providing historical temperature data. NASA GISS gets their data from NOAA CDC and uses their own Al-Gore-Rhythm to over process the information to get a best fit result that justifies what they do. NOAA’s results are not really much better because the weather monitoring stations were not meant to be accurate but to give a general idea about current temperatures. To justify spending more money weather was transformed into a concern for climate and the errors are outside of the reported results.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the Irish Times could be brought before a judge in a Court of Law so that its evidence in support of its article could be tested, just as “An Inconvenient Truth” was tested in the British High Court, and just as the New Zealand temperature record was tested in a New Zealand court.
You see, this is really the only way the world will ever get to shut these alarmists down, sending a message to the media and to governments around the world that are wasting billions of dollars on this global warming con. Legal action is only the answer… to expose the “evidence” of these global warming fraudsters!
As “Dr” Hansen fails the integrity test and his pronouncements fail the smell test, he is not a scientist – and should not be given the respect that a scientist deserves.
