Like you said Steven. and it was interesting, the Arctic has to be very cold for there to be enough cold to travel all the way down to the UK.
If the Arctic had warmed significantly, it would be impossible to have record cold in Europe.

My advice would be a small investment in an SPF* 30 sunblock franchise for the 80+ lats
* SPF (sun protection factor usually seen on Aussie cricketers)
