Steve Conner Strikes Back

http://www.independent.co.uk/

Steve Conner at The Independent tells us that the “rapidly disappearing Arctic ice cap” is making the weather cold. Interesting concept given that the Arctic Ocean is frozen over from one end to the other, just like it always is this time of year.

Two years ago, Steve Conner also informed us that “for the first time in human history” the North Pole was going to be ice-free that summer.

Perhaps he is getting his mis-predictions from two years ago incestuously co-mingled with his nonsensical explanations of the current cold?

Gotta love Serreze’s comment: There’s “supposed to be ice..”

Who makes that decision; him, or the Earth?

  2. Sense Seeker says:

So when the north pole does indeed lose all of its ice, will you finally admit that the scientists are right?

    • Ian says:

Since the arctic hasn’t lost its ice in the time frames they stipulated and there has been no “death spiral” as predicted, will you admit that the scientists are wrong?

    • Ian says:

And would you like to confirm that when the UK Met Office’s Vicky Pope claimed in November that “…we are starting to see a trend of fewer cold winters and more heatwaves in Britain, which we can link to global warming.” she was so far out that that she proved herself to be totally incompetent in her job of advising the government and should resign (or be fired)?

    • Paul H says:

In which 1000’s of other scientists will be wrong like :-

““We’re not scientifically there yet. Despite what you may have heard in the media, there is nothing like a consensus of scientific opinion that this is a problem. Because there is natural variability in the weather, you cannot statistically know for another 150 years.” — UN IPCC’s Tom Tripp, a member of the UN IPCC since 2004 and listed as one of the lead authors and serves as the Director of Technical Services & Development for U.S. Magnesium.”

Sense, if and when the Arctic loses all of its ice, it will be proof that the alarmist climatologists were wrong.
. The ice is returning from a low in 2007. How can this be if the ice loss is due to warming?
. There is a significant body of evidence that ice lose was due to changes in air and sea currents.
. It has been shown that fauna of the Arctic thrive quite well in diminished ice conditions.
. The albedo effect of polar ice will be shown to be greatly overstated.
. No “tipping” point will be achieved by total ice loss of the Arctic.

The circular arguments of the alarmist crowd has penned themselves in invalidation if any significant changes occur, either ice gain or ice loss. Regardless of the temps occurring. But then again, if the ice were to remain static, then that, too, would invalidate many claims by the alarmists.

  3. Viv Evans says:

Well, if we can expect more harsh winters due to global warming, why haven’t our government agencies already got lots of machinery, salt and grit, and manpower, to deal with them?

After all – they ought to, due to the ‘precautionary principle’!
They’re going to clobber us with more unreliable ‘green’ energy and thus adjusting our bill upwards at an unprecedented scale to ‘save the planet’ based on that same principle, so isn’t it time for gander & goose to meet sauce?

    • Ian says:

The answer is that the alarmists were really desperately hoping for a warm winter to help advance their cause, but they were retroactively forced to resort to the much more messy and less persuasive propaganda message B (warming causes cooling) when nature refused to oblige them.

“Heat is accumulating in the system (mostly in the oceans) but where it will surface is not yet fully understood.” -SS

Yeah sure bud, We’ll just take your word on that.

    • Sense Seeker says:

Don’t take my word for it – look at the scientific evidence.

You can crow victory every time a prediction made about the climate doesn’t materialise, but you can’t change the fact that the bigger picture remains clear: CO2 causes global warming and one way or another we’ll face the consequences.

      • The effects of global warming are clearly visible in the record cold weather all over the globe.

      • Brian G Valentine says:

Sense seeker, you’re a lunatic, you have convinced yourself of something that isn’t real, the word for that is psychosis. You have no case to say what the world looks like with man-made global warming and without it.

By the way, if you have such an important message to share with people here, why do you post anonymously?

Are you too chicken, or are you too too damned ashamed to say who you really are?

I have never written anything on the Internet that I didn’t attach my correct name to. That gives me a lot more credibility than you have with your idiotic graffit, dude

      • sunsettommy says:

Have you ever heard about ARGO project? They show a COOLING trend over all.

Your second link does not tell you that CO2 normally lags temperature changes.

        Try something else.

      • Justa Joe says:

Sorry SS. I can’t buy it. Your link starts out with the following proclamation without any support.

“Most of global warming goes into the ocean”

Your warmist links state that 93.4 % of the AGW heat goes into the oceans without any explanation for this mechanism. Give me a plausible explanation for this, and maybe I can by in.

  5. sunsettommy says:

    Sense seeker:

“Does make for surprising patterns, global warming.

But the arctic ice is hardly in good shape, as this graph shows. And while it is cold at lower latitudes, the temperature in the arctic is much above normal. Heat is accumulating in the system (mostly in the oceans) but where it will surface is not yet fully understood.

It would be great if you’re right and there’s nothing to worry about, but I wouldn’t bet on it.”

Not long ago a science paper was published showing that the east side of the polar regions were ice free in the summer. The work went on just fine and this all happened around the 280 ppm level for CO2 too.

There have been a few science papers published in the last few years showing that winds and influx of warm waters (positive NAO phase) from the North Atlantic are the main culprit at reducing the ice cover.Notice that it is the EAST side is where most of the reduction is occurring?

The small reduction of the polar ice cap has never been connected to rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere anyway.Just one of the renown feeble alarmist bullcrap they wet their legs over.Anything to scare people with, seems to make them feel good.

Meanwhile you biased jerks ignore the opposite going on at Antarctica.

Global warming does not exist anyway since the tropics (barely since 1979) and especially Southern Hemisphere (no warming trend at all since 1979) are not contributing to the warming trend outside of statistical noise.

Just the NORTHERN Hemisphere has shown any clear warming trend.Where most of the contaminates stations are located and the poorly accounted for UHI effects are noted.

    You guys are so pathetic.

  6. @motsatt says:

What is this global warming your talking about?

  7. Visionar says:

It really is a cycle of the sun’s spots driven by the tidal pulls of the four gas giant planet causing more or less solar activity. Currently the sun is in a very low state and the PDO is following it into a cold phase. Button up for the next 20-30 years, it will be colder. Currently we are in one of the coldest periods in the past 10,000 years and long over due for the next ice age. Humankind has only excelled during warming phases warmer than today’s relative cool period. CO2 is plant food.
