“New analyses of the heat content of the waters off Western Antarctic Peninsula are now showing a clear and exponential increase in warming waters undermining the sea ice, raising air temperatures, melting glaciers and wiping out entire penguin colonies.” http://news.discovery.com/earth/antarctica-melting-warming-penguins-101214.html
What evidence does this oceanographer have that the rising heat he is observing is from CO2 or GHGs, ACC? This heat has been hiding down there for decades and now is coming up to wreek havoc?
Those poor Penguins are all going to die because of the terrible heat they have to endure.
Did anyone think about warmth from the Equator moving south as well as north through the ocean gyre. Maybe the Peninsula is a tad further north than the remainder of the continent. And of course the geothermal activity related to the volcano ridge that form the peninsula and extends into the ocean beyond would have no effect on the ocean temperatures.
There is always the minor issue that as a part of the Earth The Antarctic region suffers from cyclical long term weather patterns that have been observed and even named the AAO and that Might, Just accidentally Might have a bit to do with the condition of the ocean off the Antarctic coast.
I did not read your POS article but did it mention the extended distances some of the colonies now have to travel to the ocean due to expanded ice shelves.

That is why the water around the Antarctic Peninsula is below normal. http://weather.unisys.com/surface/sst_anom.html
Are the data supporting these statements in peer reviewed published journals?

Could it be volcanic?
