Actually, I would think the opposite! Severe weather generally requires a clash of warm and cold air masses (with lots of other ingredient too).
At least that is what we were taught at Environment Canada many years ago, when I worked for them(before CAGW came around)….but then, that is just my opinion…
the fact that the water around the USA is cold won’t allow it to sustain long, but the fact that you would have very distinct air masses north and south of the cold waters…just a thought…

Here I spent the day reading Climate etc and the Hurricane issue was “always on my mind” while reading that site because of past claims from GT!
