I spent a week in Danbury, CT earlier this month, and I thought it was very cold with deep snow. Turns out that I was just denying the obvious truths of the Spanish Inquisition Church Of Global Warming.
This year, the sap has been running well in the maple trees at Warrups Farm in West Redding.
“It’s been a very good year,” said Bill Hill, the farm’s owner.
The deep snow cover on the ground made the taps in the trees hard to get to, he said, but once the snow melted, the trees just sucked the water up, making a lot of sap.
…………………
Which is why climate change could profoundly alter the maple syrup business — in Connecticut, in New England.
That means a part of the taste of life here could slip away. Denying it is happening won’t change anything.
“Climate change is happening,” said Thomas Philbrick, professor of environmental and biological science at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury. “We know it’s happening.
“Will it affect the maples in Connecticut? Yes,” Philbrick said this month, speaking about the science of maple trees and maple syrup-making in WestConn’s Science at Night series.
“Which is why climate change could profoundly alter the maple syrup business — in Connecticut, in New England.” It Could? But Will it? C’mon…just say it WILL. Betcha can’t! Why? You know climate change is happening. Has a nice alarming ring to it, doesn’t it? Ooooooh! Change! No more Waffles! Come to think of it, that’s all you do, is waffle. C’mon, spit it out. The Sugar Palms of New England are on their way.
Obviously, the first thing we have to do is ban the CO2-intensive practice of boiling away 39 gallons of water in maple sap to get one gallon of maple syrup…
AND, classically, they fuel they burn to heat the sap is WOOD….oh the carbon!
Now, had they done a study on thrips and their effect on sugar maple production, then they might have drawn a conclusion about geographical regions and climate effects.
Actually, cold nights (below freezing) and (relatively) warm days maximize and prolong the maple sugar season. This year appears to be a good one, so far.
These alarmists worry too much. Don’t worry, be happy! There is nothing all that unusual going on, except for some warmcold, drywet snowstorms.
I used to be a very active member of Audubon and was a regional coordinator for my state breeding bird survey. Now i won’t give a penny or time to any enviro group. So a birder possibly found a southern species breeding here in Penna. They call me up all excited, shrilling explaining to me how this bird is a sign of global warming, hadn’t I read the Audubon Christmas Bird Count Report showing how Jan temps were rising and “no more maple syrup” (from Union of Concerned Quacks and Profiteers).
Yes, January temps were trending downward in continental US the past 25 yrs, (using NCDC data), but funny how Audubon forgot to chart the last two yrs which were below average, that was two years ago. But to not make this long story any longer, here we are in 2011, and we now have 5 years below average, (Contintental US Jan) and the past 12 yrs we are now trending DOWN, 3F per decade!!! The CO2 is mean stuff.
US Temp data – http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/cag3/na.html
And a blog post I wrote some time ago about the Audubons deception, which goes deeper than the temp deception. I see them getting EPA money too!

Do you mean that the scientists, all the enviro orgs, the politicians, the press etc etc,(those good people who care all about us, not the nasty people trying to sell us energy and stuff that makes our life oh so much easier), are they all involved in one great big SCAM?? Sadly, the answer can be nothing buy YES, YES and more YES!!!
Are you referring to the Union of Corrupt Scientists above?
you know…..
Somehow I don’t think the crash of the ski or maple syrup industry will bring down the world economy.
Nope, Everything that you can imagine, which humans consider bad, will happen, and nothing , which can be remotely considered beneficial, will ever happen due to AGW. AGW has a malicious will of it’s own, and it’s relentless.
“Spanish Inquisition Church Of Global Warming”
LOL.
Like this, perhaps?

Here in Western New York the sugar maple sap is flowing like never before. The transition from Winter to Spring is taking forever-below freezing nights into above freezing days. 12 degrees F last night, enough already. Also, many makers of maple syrup have switched from wood fueled fires (old timey and romantic) to reverse osmosis.
