1934 – An Inconvenient Truth

1934 was a tough year for future alarmists. Heat and drought over much of the planet.

As of the end of the last century, it was the hottest year on record in the US – by far. US temperatures had trended downwards ever since.

Hansen wrote this in 1999 :

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. And 1988 was a temporary inconvenience as compared with repeated droughts during the 1930s “Dust Bowl” that caused an exodus from the prairies, as chronicled in Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.

Something magical happened in the year 2000 though – the past became much cooler and the present became much warmer. Hansen and USHCN are very talented people – apparently capable of time travel.

Fortunately, we have lots of historical records which our top scientists can’t “correct.”

And it wasn’t just in the US. Reader Ivan dug up a bunch of historical references showing that it was indeed a worldwide event -contrary to the claims of our “top rated” climate scientists.

I’m glad to see a record of Antarctica too…..

…It’s a shame we didn’t have newspapers during the MWP and LIA…..

    • Latitude says:

      THANKS IVAN!

    • Al Gored says:

Latitude – Maybe not newspapers but plenty of other historical records, particularly of the LIA. Including photographic records of the tail end of it showing glaciers that have been shrinking since then.

On another tangent, that US Temp graph… by jove I think I’m seeing AGW! The changes have been dramatic.

Great Info. This one’s a keeper.

  4. Al Gored says:

But, but… KH says it has never been as dry in Texas in the five years she has been there. Its ‘wierder’ now, apparently.
