Messi Worship

Messi played well yesterday, but all the adulation being poured on him isn’t deserved. It was an incredible team effort, and Messi lost the ball several times right in front of the goal. He didn’t play any better than anyone else.

I thought SAF’s strategy was disastrous. They weren’t applying any pressure in the midfield. Once Barca gets within 25 yards, they are going to score. Their biggest strength yesterday was being able to hit the corners of the goal from outside the 18.

The most impressive thing was how Barca kept the ball on the ground the whole game. Even their corner kicks were short passes. Totally unique style, and SAF had no clue how to deal with it.

Sounds like an interesting match. The sport radio shows around here would rather talk about inaction (the NFL lockout) than a real ongoing sports event.

    • It was a unique match. Completely one sided. If it weren’t for the amazing efforts of the MU goalkeeper, Barcelona might have scored ten times yesterday.

Sports announcers in America have no imagination. ESPN has been Disney-ized.

I was surprised how one sided it was…and how well Rooney tried, almost the only one of Man U to make an effort.

    Yup time to retire…………………..

Ferguson has been grossly overrated for most of his career. For a true comparison you only need to look at Arsene Wenger. Ferguson would not have got anywhere near Wenger’s record on the resources Arsenal have got.

MU are probably the second best club in Europe (maybe Real Madrid), but the difference between Barca and the rest is a yawning gap. They are the best team I have ever seen, and by a long way.

I still believe that Maradona is King.

Kept it on the ground, and it wasn’t adjusted too.

Ali did the rope-a-dope to Foreman. Foreman should have adjusted and stayed in the middle of the ring and the ref would have told Ali to get off the ropes and get in the middle and fight. Foreman would have beat him then, and Ali knew it. But Foreman never adjusted. He punched himself tired.

Funny how some people don’t adjust to the moment. They get like deer in the headlights.
