In 2002, Monbiot spread some of his left wing holiday cheer in a piece titled “Christmas Famine”
24 December 2002
Within as little as 10 years, the world will be faced with a choice: arable farming either continues to feed the world’s animals or it continues to feed the world’s people. It cannot do both.
2012 is just seven months away. The clock is ticking ……..
He must have had a really interesting childhood.
He should have stuck to 30 years like the professionals.
Don’t worry, we’ll soon hear a variety of things from the CAGW believer that remove any guilt from Romm. These could include, but certainly aren’t limited to, the following:
1. Romm’s statement isn’t a prediction, it’s a scenario. Clearly deniers don’t understand the difference.
2. We have until Dec 24, 2012 for this prediction to come true, not just 7 months.
3. Romm said “as little as”, meaning that Dec 24, 2012 is the earliest such a thing might happen.
4. Take a look around, starvation is already happening…it happened just like he said!
What you won’t hear is how we’ve been putting food into our gas tanks…

I think you meant Monbiot ;^)
Crap, totally my mistake. I retract what I attributed to Romm and instead say that CAGW believers would defend Monbiot in the same way.

I imagine his upbringing to resemble something from ” the wall” by Pink Floyd.
This man read too many cheap comic books and saw too many grade C disaster movies.
Didn’t he learn anything from the 1970’s Earth Day predictions. We all starved by the year 2000. 🙁
Call me a contarian.
George Monbiot Monday 6 September 2010:
“I was wrong about veganism. Let them eat meat – but farm it properly”
“This will not be an easy column to write…….

Bwahahaha! – no its not easy to be green…
Monbiot: “The battle over climate change suggests that the more clearly you spell the problem out, the more you turn people away. If they don’t want to know, nothing and no one will reach them. There goes my life’s work.”

Hypocrite George Monbiot Condemns Large, Expensive Homes – Except His Own.

Who knows, mandate enough biofuels and he might be right.
The impending crisis will be accelerated by the depletion of both phosphate fertiliser and the water used to grow crops. Every kilogram of beef we consume, according to research by the agronomists David Pimental and Robert Goodland, requires around 100,000 litres of water. Aquifers are beginning the run dry all over the world, largely because of abstraction by farmers.
Amateurism, adolescent handling of statistics. Most of that water is rain and most of it is pissed out as fertilizer-enriched irrigation water. David Pimentel is High Priest of the ethanol bashers and not a proper agronomist. He’s been part of the elite intelligensia eco-fascist movement for the past 40 years.

Pimentel is the source for not only most “green left” criticism of biofuels but also the right-of-center appeasers of environmental regulation. Remember the issue with cows causing more CO2 pollution than cars? They got the numbers wrong there too. Always a numbers game combined with alarmist calls to act, act ACT! Just like any bimbo car salesman worth his salt.
Pimentel also had his own “hide the decline” scandal.
To top all that off, when Pimentel changes his assumptions by as much as
1700% between 2003 and 2005, he diverts attention away from it by
switching the units of measure so that the change would not be apparent to
anyone, such as a reporter, who would try to compare it. In the chart
comparing his 2003 and 2005 studies (see Figure A-3), I’ve converted the
recent study to the units of measure (Btu) used in the prior study. You’ll
notice that his net change figure, the one that reporters should make the
effort to compare, is barely altered (-4.95%), despite many assumptions
changing.

Fig. A-3 Creative concealment. When converted to common units, it’s easy
to see how the change of units of measure masked the inexplicably
divergent figures of the two versions of the study. The technology
involved has not measurably changed during this period.
