Global warming decreasing salt in sea
London – Climate change will turn the Baltic Sea into an increasingly freshwater sea and devastate its marine life, according to scientists.
A multinational study has found that an increase in precipitation in the region would lead the water in the Baltic to become less salty. Such a decrease in salinity would change the make-up of sea life, which is already suffering from over-fishing and harmful chemicals.
Professor Chris Reid, of the Marine Institute, University of Plymouth, who was involved in the study, said: “Due to global warming, it is predicted there will be an increase in precipitation in the river basins that flow into the Baltic Sea. As a result – because it’s an enclosed sea with a very narrow exit – the sea will become fresher. We predict this will happen over the next 100 years.”
And just where pray tell do these idiots think the water will come from to increase the precipitation. If memory serves the North Sea is fed by the Gulf Stream with its higher salt content due to excessive evaporation around the equatorial regions. These guys are admitting the oceans are NOT well mixed but fail to admit they can not provide a meaningful guess for their models.
A good example of the GIGO rule!
When the Baltic Freezes over, they can say “It’s because it’s less salty, because of Global Warming”… Brilliant!
Presumably some of the water that will increase the precipitation will come from the Baltic itself – did they think to take THAT into account? What about the runoff at the end of the last ice-age? Perhaps that’s why the ice melted – someone sprinkled it with salt, and the Baltic salt level remained high. I seem to recall that the Baltic has been around for a considerable time, with those same rivers flowing into it. No sign of de-salination from those times then? Oh I forgot, it’ll be due to global warming, and we never had any of THAT before.
