Lake Powell Water Level Highest For The Date Since 2002

Water is flowing into the lake at a record rate, so it is quite likely that by July the water level will be back up near a historic maximum. This is in spite of the fact that they are also letting a lot of water out of the dam.

why not let it build up ? seems peculiar to cry drought and falling levels for years only to waste water when there’s plenty

Lake Mead downstream (behind the Hoover Dam) has also been very low after a relatively dry decade. The releases from Lake Powell will mainly go to fill Lake Mead.

It seems that 50 years ago, the lake level was very low. Lakes are like hurricanes or tornados – decisions by man have a great impact on their level (whether to draw more or less, release more from dams or less). While it is fun to poke fun at the idiots that pontificate based upon their ignroance, I do not think it is a barometer of AGW. It is a barometer of population growth in the area however.

Talking of the effects of lots of snow (yeah ok this is off topic). The Hubbard glacier is within 100m of the Gilbert Point closure again. Theoretically the glacier should begin to retreat some time soon but perhaps the extra snow might let us in for a few surprises?

Lake Powell is another alarmist poster child that has turned against them. But too many people and too little water is still a long term problem.

    • Half of the water in the west goes to raise corn for ethanol and cattle feed. It takes hundreds of gallons of water to make one cheeseburger.

Governments need to stop subsidizing water to farmers, and make meat sell at it’s true cost.
