“It may have been messy. It might have appeared to some like their government wasn’t working,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), one of the two who crafted the compromise. “But, in fact, the opposite was true.”
Apparently abject failure equals a working government.
Well, at least the Republicans aren’t stupid enough to keep some guy around who played Bumble Puppy on a couch with Nancy Pelosi.
Whether government is working or not is a matter of opinion. But it was messy. And whether government was working or not does not change the fact that America got screwed.
The government that governs the best governs the least. —– I wonder what part of that did Mitch misunderstand?
Memo to Mitch. You let us down. It was your own desire to save your job, to keep the status quo, to be able to continue your own largess with our money, that caused you to compromise your principles and strike a deal with those who won’t be happy until this nation is not only bankrupt but also bereft of the ability to then recover and once again secure the peace and comfort that accompanies prosperity. As an ex-republican, I can only state that I was disgusted. Not so much by the actions of the body of people you represent….. and lets not lie to one another, you no more represent the people of Kentucky than I do. You represent the people of the status quo. I was disgusted, rather, by my judgment. I had errantly thought that some, no, most of the U.S. congress would seize the moment and take advantage of the opportunity to do something meaningful for the Republic. You failed us. You didn’t just fail the republican party, but you failed the American people.
I would much rather have people in congress to make a principled stand that may be questionable than to have people compromise their principles and do the things they know to be wrong. This path you have chosen, is destructive. It is destructive to your party, it is destructive to your nation and it is destructive to the idea of financial responsibility, both as a nation and personal.
I will lend any and all support for a third party dedicated to ideas of fiscal sanity and individual liberties. It is quite obvious neither party is interested in either one of those principles.
“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.”
Mark Twain
History has shown the later to be true!
“Apparently abject failure equals a working government.”
Isn’t that exactly the design goal of government?
The ones in Washington that think this was “working”, and a “success”, are the ones that need to be voted out of office posthaste. Out with the bad, in with the good. Let’s keep breathing America.
pro is opposite of con….. progress opposite of congress….
About that “progress” thing: I think the word has been co-opted. Sorry. 🙁
