I did a WRF run with the latest GFS boundary conditions and it shows Irene weakening after it hits North Carolina. Looks like there is going to be lots of rain in Delaware.
Forecast rain in millimetres
I was living in Delaware near Lewes in 1979 when David went thru. Lots of rain. I had a family from work come stay with us as they lived in low area that did get flooded.
We live in Lewes now and were in the evacuation zone. There was flooding inland but minimal damage here. Some trees down with the real damage being caused by a tornado. Nothing like what they were predicting.

Amazing what happens when realistic SST’s are used for modeling. Let’s hope this scenario holds true.
