Alarmists are getting more desperate by the day. How can something be “near-unprecedented?” Unprecedented means it is not near anything else.
He has witnessed firsthand the impact of a near-unprecedented drought
Which is worse – a one year drought or an eight year drought?
After enduring nearly a year of drought, Texans have grown accustomed to seeing acres of withered crops, scores of dried-up ponds and mile after mile of cracked earth.
But the drought that began last fall has yet to eclipse the infamous dry spell of the 1950s, a bleak period when the skies stubbornly withheld moisture. It was the state’s worst drought ever.
From 1949 to 1957, Texas got 30 to 50 percent less rain than normal, and temperatures rose above average.
I don’t know which is worse, the people that try to make these things into global warming, or the people that believe them.
New South Wales is BIGGER than Texas
Do not tell an AGGIE that because it will confuse them! They will want to know how anyone could think a WHALE is larger than the state of Texas!
Maybe we should cut Alaska in half so Texas is the 3rd largest state.
This drought BS got me to thinking: What if arid is the “Normal” long term weather pattern which would make “Drought” like conditions “Normal” and what they experienced during their “Wet” periods the “Abnormal” conditions. “Tropical” low pressure systems are the primary source of moisture for the regions along the Gulf Coast and the South East Atlantic Coastal region. Maybe they should be praying for “Tropical Storms” rather than naming them.
Long term variations in weather means the region “Will” experience periods of above Normal and periods of Below Normal rainfall. The PDI has just become another tool for the Chicken Little Brigade.
This also provides evidence that averaging anything related to weather over ANY period destroys the true climate signal.
Near-unprecedented means precedented. Usually that’s what unprecedented means too.
I get it! Near unprecedented means Normal! And the article is going on about normal weather conditions! GOT IT!!!!!
Speaking of alarmists … there is an excellent piece at “no frakking consensus” showing the parallels between the Y2K alarmists and climate change alarmists … the similarities are striking:

“Unprecedented means it is not near anything else”
No it doesn’t. It means it has no precedent – it has never happened before.
Like you though, I’m unclear how something could have nearly never happened before.
?????
Precendence is like pregnancy, it comes in a rather binary form.
Let’s hope that someday alarmist journalists will begin to approach near-intelligence.
There’s a reason the Houston Comical is Grade A birdcage lining! lol
