Almost all have been fish storms. Emily did rain on Haiti’s parade, and another spoiled the drought in South Texas, but I do not even remember reading about F – Must have been at the beach when he formed and died.

  2. Is there anywhere to easily find the dates and times that mark the beginning and end of the “Name” being attached to a “storm”?

  3. PJB says:

The “season” is from June 1st through October 31st. Names are given when TCs appear no matter the date. The 20 names (followed by Greek alphabet for more than 20) are listed on the Unisys site for hurricanes (same one that Steven uses for the SSTs).

Here is a picture of the “usual” frequency of TC activity in the Atlantic basin during an average year.

Steven, what is the method for posting the image itself? Thanks.

  5. Andy WeissDC says:

Frequency of named storms is not that meaningful because naming storms is subjective. In fact, many times in the past they have not named storms that should have been named. Those “unnamed” storms were certainly superior to all of this year’s named storms.
