Norway Predator Tragedies

Norway suffered two tragedies during the last month involving predators killing teenagers. Both could have been avoided had the kids been properly trained in the use of rifles, and had rifles available.

$69.95 for the rifle. $0.25 each for the shells. I’d recommend another $5 for a shoulder pad. That is less than one dollar per life saved.

I wouldn’t go camping in the Arctic without a rifle within reach at all times.

Due to Coyotes and feral dogs I do not go walking without. Also from time to time black bears have been spotted in these parts. Tuesday morning a coyote was following one of my dogs but sped off at the sound of my voice calling my dog out of the line of fire!

I just ordered a “Thumper” in case Polar Bears migrate to my area:

AND a 44 Magnum under my pillow.
Always keep another person between you and the bear.
Make sure you can run faster than at least one person in your group.
Sleep between two people in the tent.

How anyone could even consider venturing into areas with large predators unarmed is beyond my understanding.

How can you not know that bears, tigers, lions, sharks, etc. eat people? How??

  5. Me says:

If it were me, I’d take a 12 gauge shot gun, a box of slugs and a box of #5 birdshot, it will get the job done very nice and is better as a survival tool.

A very stupid and insensitive commen from you. The first insident was a bombe and the last was the shooting on an island. You must know very little about Norway. Do you think you can stop violance if everybody walks around with a gun? Stick to the climate.

    • One person with a rifle on the island is all that was needed. This should be obvious.

This season of ‘Top Shot’ has an interesting contestant named ‘Dustin’…

“A bright and energetic summer camp director, Dustin Ellerman is an easy guy to like—and he aims to please. “I’m from Zavalla, Texas, a small town of 647 people,” says this self-taught marksman and avid hunter. “I sure don’t want to let them down.” Besides shooting pistols and rifles, Dustin is proficient with a compound bow; he also throws tomahawks and knives. A minister, accountant, lumberjack, husband, father of two and foster father of three, Dustin lives in the middle of the Angelina National Forest and considers himself a Renaissance man. “I’m a nice guy,” he says, “but I can be too outspoken and honest—if I don’t like you, I won’t hide it.”

Now that’s a camp director you can trust with your kids.

    • S. L. Goddard says:

“Stupid” is a label, and “insensitive” is another label regarding a lack of care for another’s feelings.
I ask you, which is less intelligent?

To see how criminals consistently refuse to obey laws, but still blindly hold onto the notion that somehow, more laws will prevent crimes?
      Or….
To acknowledge that criminals do not obey laws, including gun ban laws or laws regarding murder? Discussing how the provisions for people to be physically able to defend themselves as effectively as the criminal can attack is proven to stop such attacks?
(Most attackers cease attaking when nursing gunshot wounds–if they are conscious.)

I ask you which is more “insensitive” to the feelings of the people who had to bury their dead?

To refuse to allow any discussion of how things could have been handled better if they include any discussion of civilians defending themselves, and call anyone who dares discuss this logically names because you don’t like what they are saying?
      Or…..
To review the failures of the society that suffered the tradegedy, even if it means screwering a sacred cow of yours?

Gun free zones, gun bans, gun laws, do not stop gun crime! Norway has excellent gun restriction laws! They worked so well, the police had to go and try to get supplied wtih guns while waiting for a ride to the island!

Laws, by their very definition, only define criminal behavior, they do not do anything other than define, and mete out what that society has determined to be “acceptable” punishment for violating them.

Why don’t gun bans work? Because criminals have this nasty little personality trait that refuses to follow the laws we make! Look up the definition of “Criminal” in the dictionary, it might shed some light for you on how useless laws are to prevent crime.

So I would argue that his comment is not insensitive! Niether is it stupid!
Stupid is a word whose defninition can be defined by the user, it lacks any usefullness in an intelligent conversation whatsoever.

Insanity: Trying the same things over and over, expecting a different result.

No law has ever stopped or prevented a murderer from killing. Therefore, I suggest to you, that in light of the sheer number of casualties involved in this sad tragedy, calling people who are only making intelligent and logical observations unintelligent, or insensitive, is niether sensitive, nor intelligent–just distracting from the topic of discussion.

  7. S. L. Goddard says:

This sad and tragic story is just another example of how depending on anyone other than yourself for your own self defense in ANY situation is a futile excersize.

For those so opposed to the idea of anyone other than a sworn police officer or soldier carrying a firearm, I suggest you work towards finding a fast, efficient, and cost effective way to strap a soldier, or police officer on your back so they can be wherever you are, whenever you might need them.

Personally, I prefer to carry my own personal defense system, unlike a soldier and all his gear, or a police officer and all their gear, wieghing at least 200 lbs, my system wieghs only 40 ounces, including the weight of the holster and extra-magazine clips.

Police do not prevent crimes, they investigate, then arrest (if they can) the criminal, so the justice system can slap them on their wrists and set them free for political purposes later, so they can do it again, and again, and again.

When your live hangs on what will happen in the next few seconds…..JUST REMEMBER, THE POLICE ARE JUST A FEW MINUTES AWAY!

That is unless they are busy elsewhere, or can’t find a ride to your location! Ref: Failure of police in Norway to respond because of a lack of equipment to service their people!
