I noticed that the last couple of times. What is that gaping gap due to?

      • Latitude says:

they ran out of whiteout……of course 😉

      • Latitude says:

        Tony, serious…..it’s a satellite glitch
any number of things could cause it, but it didn’t read on that pass

      • Stroeve posts here from time to time, maybe you can ask her.

      • Latitude says:

        I think this was it……

Some swaths are late coming in, which is why you see gray areas in the extent map at the moment. When we receive them, they are added to the day.

      • Tony,

        From the NSIDC’s web-site:

Isolated areas of missing data occasionally occur in near-real-time sea ice data. The daily extent map shows any areas of missing data as dark gray regions, speckles, or spider web patterns.

(the only date I can find on that page is a “Copyright 2004” bit of boilerplate)

You can also go with the much more up-to-date information of:

The daily image update isn’t current; why?

The daily image update is produced from near-real-time operational satellite data, with a data lag of approximately one day. However, visitors may notice that the date on the image is occasionally more than one day behind. Occasional short-term delays and data outages do occur and are usually resolved in a few days.

        Updated: February 2009

Again, if that doesn’t answer your question, perhaps Julienne will fill you in personally when she finds the time.

      • Scott says:

        Hi Tony,

As Lat said, look at Julienne’s comment. Also, I recall her saying that some of the satellites struggled recently due to the solar flares.

You will find that if you start to search on your own these answers are available. You will also find other answers that will put your mind at ease about “manmade global warming”. The reason you are a believer in ‘global warming’ is you haven’t searched enough on your own. You shouldn’t trust anyone but yourself. Question global warming scientists as much as you do Steven Goddard. Because right now I know you do not.

      • Tony Duncan says:

        Thanks,

I had read all those things, but I was just surprised that the “gap” was almost half of the image, rather than a couple of hundred miles here or there

  2. Latitude says:

    ……….don’t worry, they have whiteout

lol, well, as long as we know…..

    Perry——– 29%

While the Federal Government’s credit rating dropped Florida’s soared, climbing from a AA to S&P’s coveted AAA rating. This means the state can refinance its old debt and save millions of dollars. It also means the state is in a good position to attract new businesses.

Florida’s credit rating was just upgraded from AA+ to AAA…..without raising taxes. Thanks Governor Scott

    • Mike Davis says:

Maybe with that credit rating Florida can do a leveraged buyout of the entire country!
The whole thing is Florida’s fault anyway. If Gore had got in No other Democrat would have been able to get any votes for 20 years or more and we would have a conservative government since 2002 because Gore would have been a lame duck for the last two years like Obambi should have been!

      • Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

Obama only knows how to destroy not build. Immaturity does that to you. AA+ is just the beginning. If Obama has 4 more years America will be a ghetto. And I think that would make him say “Mission accomplished” with a smile.

      • suyts says:

Freaking Gore!!!! He’s such a loser, even though he was a loser years ago, he’s still a loser for us now!!! Why, Oh, why can’t we find a happy ending to this loser Gore!?!?!?!!?!

      • Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

        Mike Davis

Blame Tennessee if you have to. His home state didn’t go for him. If they did then no matter what Florida did Gore would have been President.

      • Mike Davis says:

        AAM:
SORRY about that! I did not live here in 2000 but I am a current resident and most of my kin live here!
Hold it down on the “Ridge Runner” jokes because I happen to own about a half mile of ridge line over looking Norris Lake with 3500 acres of undeveloped land on three sides of my property. Out here more than one car an hour on the road is rush hour traffic!

  6. Mike Odin says:

    Grey zones appear
    when bogus data cannot be
    safely fabricated because
of the presence of nearby observers.

    Unlike in the desolation
    of tropical Antarctica where
    data is simply fabricated.

    e.g.
    plus 13C to plus 23C

    Latitude: 67-40S Longitude: 045-51E Altitude: 40 m.
    (Note the missing entries for
Sunlight hours and no weather summaries)

    vs real Antarctica
    minus 7C to minus 23C

    Of course the warmer temperatures
    will be recorded and the
    colder temperatures will be discarded.

Steve Goddard looks past the obvious to create a ridiculous conspiracy and then he wonders why he is the butt of so many jokes.
