Obama Pledges To Lose A Few Thousand More Men Before Quitting Afghanistan

Yes, Afghanistan is another Vietnam. Or maybe another Afghanistan

The Taliban lured US forces into an elaborate trap to shoot down their helicopter, killing 30 American troops in the deadliest such incident of the war, an Afghan official said Monday.

US President Barack Obama pledged that the incident — which killed 38 people — would not keep foreign forces from prevailing in Afghanistan, and the Pentagon called the downing of the Chinook a “one-off” that would not alter US strategy.

    THE DISASTERS IN AFFGHANISTAN.
    CURIOUS PARALLEL.
Our dreadful disaster in Affghanistan resembles in different degrees two severe defeats (both of which were subsequently revenged, if not repaired) sustained by the Romans in the very acme or their power. ”

Yeh!! Its not going to stop us from prevailing!!!!………. uhmm, what is it that we’re doing over there? I thought it was to get Bin Laden…… we did, we’re done. Time to call it a win and go on in! No! We’re going to stay and…….. and….. prevail!!!! Yes, that’s the ticket!!!

So how does one prevail in an ‘Overseas Contingency Operation’?

  4. gofer says:

What does “prevail” mean? After all, he said he had a problem with the word “winning.”

WASHINGTON (AP) – Fire trucks and concrete mixers, semis, heavy-duty pickups and all trucks in between will, for the first time, have to trim fuel consumption and emissions of heat-trapping gases under new efficiency standards announced Tuesday by President Barack Obama.

The White House said the standards will save businesses billions of dollars in fuel costs, help reduce oil consumption and cut air pollution. The standards apply to vehicle model years 2014 to 2018.

The new targets affect three categories of vehicles. Big rigs or semis will have to slash fuel consumption and production of heat-trapping gases by up to 23 percent. Gasoline-powered heavy-duty pickups and vans will have to cut consumption by 10 percent, or by 15 percent if the vehicles run on diesel fuel.

As CO2 is not a trap for heat (but rather re-emits any IR photons it receives) that will be easy.

No, no it won’t. If demand gets lower, the OPEC nations will simply cut production lessening availability. This will drive up the cost. Basic economics. To believe world demand will do anything but continue to rise is silly. The only way to make any significant impact on costs is to make oil and oil products more consistently available. To accomplish this, we have to drill our own oil and refine it ourselves. Thus, lessening OPECs impact on global supply. We probably can’t get to supplying all of our needs as a nation, but we can significantly effect global supply.

I fail to understand the policy of not creating a parking lot of the entire country. Apparently war isn’t hell anymore.

Latitude, haven’t you heard? Obama has sidestepped the laws of thermodynamics; that would include combustion efficiency in ICE.

Congress still has not stopped Obama’s unilateral Libya war.

We’ll win in Afghanistan just like we won in Vietnam!! Wait.. what?
