PBS Brings Publicly Funded Superstition To America

Across the United States, extreme heat has claimed the lives of at least 60 people

The point of the story is that global warming is causing a record number of heat records and deaths. As usual, PBS has not done their homework. During the third week of July, 1936 – 12,000 died from the heat in one week.

Let’s do the math. There are 1,200 USHCN stations. The USHCN database is 120 years long. Every day, each one of those stations has one chance out of 120 of breaking a record. That means we would expect (on average) 10 high temperature records per day or 3,650 per year.

Half of the country has been below normal, and half of the country has been above normal.

There have been 38 warmer years in the US, including 1934 1921 1925 1946 1954 1953 1938 1931 1911 1939 1910 1896 1952 and 1900.

Global warming is deeply rooted in ignorance and superstition.

In the summer hot weather is climate in North America. During the winter they flip the script and condescending chastise anyyone who suggest that cold weather is anything but an isolated weather event. Just ask Chris Mooney.

  2. Owen says:

The climate liars are bemoaning the loss of 60 people due to supposedly record high temperatures, yet they are the ones that want to eliminate the use of coal and cause power shortages thus eliminating life saving air conditioning. Tens of thousands will die each summer from heat strokes and heat exhaustion. All part of their genocidal plan to destroy civilization.

  3. Jimash says:

The refrain is always “don’t lean on the anecdotals,” but when they want to use the anecdotals ( as long as they are high) that’s ok.
    Cheez and crackers.

  4. Amino Acids in Meteorites says:

    Dear PBS,

    Weather is not climate.

  5. SBVOR says:

    1) Yep, much like Michael Mann’s fraudulent Hockey Stick, all CAGW propagandists prefer to erase the (more severe) 1930s warm period and the 1970s cool period:

    2) Has PBS forgotten the theory predicts AGW will be most visible in warmer northern hemisphere winters (not summers)?

NOAA data show a 24 year USA winter cooling trend and a 24 year USA summer warming trend. Like so much of AGW theory, this observational data is entirely upside down from what was predicted:

  6. Lazarus says:

    “Let’s do the math.”

Yes lets, Your math means that there is just the same chance of one of the records being for COLD which is kinda the point you have tried very hard to miss.

How many of your 38 warmest years in the US were also in the 38 warmest years globally?

  7. Ralph says:

I stopped watching PBS when Nova pushed Al Gore’s climate change propaganda.

  8. Gator says:

NEWSFLASH!!! Record low summer time temperatures have been set across the US. Obama has issued a statement in attempts to calm the public and mitigate unrest. The White House has deployed the National Guard to stop looters and assisit in evacuations. Climatologists all agree this is a sure sign of global warming and we are all doomed. More at 11:00…

    2010 the 9000th Warmest Year
by Jonathan DuHamel on Jan. 01, 2011, under Climate change

The year 2010 was one of weather extremes due mainly to the transition from El Nino to La Nina. The year has been much touted as the warmest in the last 150 years or at least the warmest since it was cooler. But, looking at a longer perspective, the 10,500 years of our current interglacial period, 2010 was cooler than about 9,000 of those years.

That is the contention of geologist Dr. Don J. Easterbrook. “One of the best ways to look at long-term temperatures is with isotope data from the GISP2 Greenland ice core, from which temperatures for thousands of years can be determined.” By looking at the ratio of oxygen- 16 to oxygen-18, the temperatures at the time snow fell over the glaciers can be determined. “The age of such temperatures can be accurately measured from annual layers of accumulation of rock debris marking each summer’s melting of ice and concentration of rock debris on the glacier.”

  11. Gator says:

“The year 2010 was about the warmest for over the last 100,000 years. It is from an Antarctic ice core showing the last 400K.”

WTF? As Lat said, “no”. Also, along with misrteading the chart, you missed this…

“Do rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations cause increasing global temperatures, or could it be the other way around? This is one of the questions being debated today. Interestingly, CO2 lags an average of about 800 years behind the temperature changes– confirming that CO2 is not the cause of the temperature increases. One thing is certain– earth’s climate has been warming and cooling on it’s own for at least the last 400,000 years, as the data below show. At year 18,000 and counting in our current interglacial vacation from the Ice Age, we may be due– some say overdue– for return to another icehouse climate!”

    Geesh!

NPR and PBS are propaganda mills. Their reporters are intellectually bankrupt. They lack the most fundamental of critical thinking skills. Every day they are being exposed. They broadcasted under the radar for years. They no longer get away with it. Too many people are watching and reporting on their biases and prejudices. They have an agenda and a template and present information in support of these. They lost any healthy skepticism, that they may have had, years ago.
