Romm : Manhattan To Drown This Weekend
This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Bookmark the permalink.
somewhat off topic, but given recent posts here on the texas drought, i thought you might like to comment on the following analysis from down under, courtesy of the Bureau of Meteorology.
This includes the statement : “The dry conditions have been focussed on Texas, which is experiencing the worst drought in its recorded history.”

Recorded history only goes back a few years.
ArkStorm pointed to this on my FB page: NY Superstorm. Note that CA and other areas have already seen similar events. Before recorded history.

Gov. Christie on Hurricane Irene: “From a Flooding Perspective, This Could Be a 100-Year Event.”

Alarmists always ignore historical weather records; they “forget” the 1930’s,1940’s and 50’s when the East Coast was affected by numerous hurricanes/tropical storms including the ones in 1933, 1934, and the 1938 Long Island Express, the 1944 Atlantic City Hurricane, Hurricanes Hazel, Carol & Edna in 1954, and tropical storms Connie & Diane in 1954. The 1821 hurricane had a track almost identical to the track predicted for Irene.
It figures that the lunatics McKibben and Romm are the first alarmists to link Irene to AGW; they just nauseate me, I’m glad I haven’t eaten breakfast yet.
Hansen may get his wish!!
“It figures that the lunatics McKibben and Romm are the first alarmists to link Irene to AGW; they just nauseate me, I’m glad I haven’t eaten breakfast yet.”
It looks like you’re going to be in a hunger strike.

No; Romm, or rather the person he quoted from, Gov. Christie, does not need a crystal ball to discern the obvious. Gov. Christie doesn’t even have to be a card carrying Warmist/Alarmist/Socialist/Marxist (ad nauseum).
All anyone needs to discern the gravity of the situation are eyes, ears and half a brain.

Yes, he is an expert – on eating pizza.
Terra: sorry to hear you only have half a brain! But that explains your comments!
I forgot to quote the Socialist/Marxist/Fascist/Islamicist from Kenya, Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg ordered a mandatory evacuation — something he said the city had never done before — of coastal areas in Brooklyn; Queens, including all of the Rockaways; and Staten Island, along with Battery Park City and the financial district in Lower Manhattan and Governor’s Island. The evacuation covered 250,000 people in and around what the city calls Zone A low-lying areas who, the mayor said, should get out before the storm swept in.
“You only have to look at the weather maps to understand how big this storm is and how unique it is,” the mayor said at a news conference, “and it’s heading basically for us.”
Another genius
He probably has half a brain also!
At the rate Irene is moving she will probably reach a CAT 12 on the CLB scale of hysteria before she makes landfall.
Whatever is claimed the “EYE” of the storm Must cross the coast!
I am wondering what the results would be if the EYE collapses and it becomes a squall line?
Mike, the eye collapsed this morning………..
😉
“At the rate Irene is moving she will probably reach a CAT 12 on the CLB scale of hysteria before she makes landfall.”
So you mock everyone who shows concern about this Hurricane.
“Whatever is claimed the “EYE” of the storm Must cross the coast!”
You should have been in charge of things before Katrina struck. Perhaps you would respond by playing the Lyre.
“I am wondering what the results would be if the EYE collapses and it becomes a squall line?”
That would be wonderful. But why should anyone be so foolish to make plans based on that small possibility? Not that you would follow your own wisdom if Irene were heading your way.
Brushing the coast is not making landfall and at the rate the lady is weakening chances are she will qualify as a squall line when she does make landfall in New England.
There have been to many times the storms did not preform as predicted and people that were not in harms way were evacuated which added significantly to the final cost of the storm. Katrina was a storm and the people living in the area affected had plenty of historical evidence as well as prior warnings as to the eventual results. They were warned years before but ignored the warnings! And they are proudly rebuilding a disaster waiting to happen!
“Brushing the coast is not making landfall and at the rate the lady is weakening chances are she will qualify as a squall line when she does make landfall in New England.”
As if you can predict whether a Hurricane will make landfall, or simply brush the coast, days ahead of time. If you’re at the foot of a tall mountain and see a boulder coming down in your general direction, would you think that there is no justification in getting out of its way? So what if it happens to change course while tumbling down and it misses you by a hundred feet?
Whatever damage the hurricane causes or fails to cause is TOTALLY irrelevant to the fact that it was positioned in such a way as to make itself a threat. You did not have the psychic ability to predict what that Hurricane would do a couple days ago, so you are in no position to rationalize a do-nothing attitude.
“There have been to many times the storms did not preform as predicted and people that were not in harms way were evacuated which added significantly to the final cost of the storm.”
You really have no comprehension of what responsibility means. Never mind your psychopathic assessment of costs–you can’t even imagine what the total cost of one hurricane strike would be compared to the cost of multiple alarms.
“Katrina was a storm and the people living in the area affected had plenty of historical evidence as well as prior warnings as to the eventual results. They were warned years before but ignored the warnings! And they are proudly rebuilding a disaster waiting to happen!”
While I agree that St. Louis should never have been built in the first place, that has no relevance the issue of ecacuating any city. Are you implying that the entire East coast should never have had a city built?
There’s plenty of historical evidence that Miami has been hit several times over by hurricanes; so do they deserve to have no warning or assistance because they “chose” to live in an area with a history of multiple hurricane strikes?
By this assinine and morally torpid logic no one should be warned of anything.
T I
They need to lose the Chicken Little attitude and give realistic projections! The models were all over the place for this one and they chose the most dramatic possible!
Locations where severe weather is expected should be built to deal with possible future events based on historical records.
My problem is the thought process that says it is OK to build in harms way as long as you have enough insurance and there are emergency services that will come to rescue you.
TI: “All anyone needs to discern the gravity of the situation are eyes, ears and half a brain.”
Steve: “Yes, he is an expert – on eating pizza.”
Are you referring to Governor Christie who said “From a Flooding Perspective, This Could Be a 100-Year Event.”? Or are you perhaps referring to Mayor Bloomberg who ordered the evacuation?
And what is the relevance of bringing up people’s expertise in your response to my saying that you only need half a brain to see what’s happening?
Yes, I have tremendous respect for their scientific and historical prowess – and Christie’s tremendous waistline
“Yes, I have tremendous respect for their scientific and historical prowess”
Should anyone respect those who mock elected officials for taking rational actions based on the scientific prowess of weather surveillance?
Furthermore, what does history have to do with a hurricane headed for a seacoast?
Last, but not least, are we to elevate you to a level above all meteorologists who find find your attitude ghastly?
Own catastrophic, once in a lifetime, category 4 hurricane – Irene
is now a Cat 1…falling apart fast………and still 16-20 hours from landfall
too much dry air coming off the mountains, to big, too much interaction with land, and the Greenland gyre…………….
Joe Bastardi owes me dinner…………..:)
