Drought history is now 12 years because they are using the “Modified” Palmer Drought Index now instead of the obsolete restrained alarmism in the older version. The new version in based on the best practices guide of the Chicken Little Brigade.
I just realized they may not be using the Palmer “Modified” Drought Index but instead they are using something called the “Drought Monitor”. Maybe PMDI was not dramatic enough.
How do they compare a region with an average precipitation of 4 inches with a region with an average of 12 inches or even 40+ inches. 4 inches of rain is a good week of rain during our wet season but 1 inch of rain is cause for flash flooding in Southern Nevada. Some places a half inch of rain means problems where here it just gets the ground wet!
Didn’t they just have a rash of thunder storms? Is one truly still in a drought after heavy rains?

NE Oregon’s finally getting what would be called summer. Here in La Grande we finally hit 90F+
for more than a 24 hr period.Wheat’s just now getting ripe. some of the Farm kid are going
back to school that coupled with a small migrant availability might have a crimp on Combine and
Truck drivers…
Gee, I thought that particular prize went to the Sahara desert or Death Valley!
